That's sort of a funny question. I didn't personally know anyone with flaming red hair until I was in like fourth grade, but it's not as if I didn't know it existed or as if I'd never seen it. Dunno, it just seemed to me that origin of most devo-ism included some real-life interaction with disability and wheelchairs. Is that not the case?

I currently have lots of interaction with people in chairs but I was a devo long before that happened. I did not know any men, women, boys or girls who used wheelchairs when I was growing up.

i have known folks with different disabilities throughout my life.
i didn't seek any of them out. ok, one. i think i just gravitated towards them, and them to me...like anyone else who makes friends.
~ edited 'cause it's late and i was rambling....

Stude, that's a mighty pretty white hot rod. Can you drive it, get in and out by yourself? You can't be a quad-not w/that upper body developement...how were you injured?

but today because of these injections within 24 hr injury period, even i don't measure up to the level of today's quads and look rather limited in comparison..just look at that mark zupan dude from murderball..he's a quad but more like a para..hands , trunk balance and all..even his legs look huge hehe.. .. I think a lot of that's mainly cause he's incomplete. -E- told me Zupan can actually walk. Not normally, of course. I swear my jaw dropped when I found out Zupan could walk, it almost seemed as if he was..cheating, I dont know. But it turns out a lot of guys on the team are incomplete or can walk. When -E- did all the calculations he found out that he was the only guy on the Paralympic team that was complete.

Stude36.. You and I are in the same boat... I'm a c6/c7 quad and have about the same limitations as you. We even were injured in the same way. I dove from a boat to help some girls we were taking water skiing.
I used to play rugby and when I first saw the previews of murderball I wondered if they were now letting paras play.. At the time, a couple of guys I played with were olympians and were not near as buff as these guys. As far as working out. I modified an upright bench machine and it works great. with the same machine I can bench, curl, lat pull, and a pec squeeze. I use a cuff to overcome my hand weakness (dual use if your into bondage.. lol).
Your car is great and sounds like it was really easy to modify. Good luck on bringing her back, keep us posted on your progress. I'm looking to buy a hotrod. I was thinking of a 53 ford panel van but I used to own a 67 mustang fastback and really want another one. I, like you, hate that I now have to pay for someone to work on my car. Hey, any of you devo's like working on cars? talk about the perfect woman.. lol........

There's really no reason why completely a.b. people shouldnt play w/c sports if they want.

There's really no reason why completely a.b. people shouldnt play w/c sports if they want. I think there is though Triassic. People with disablities are graded or rated for their sport along certain scales that are based on level of function, balance, hand grip, etc. Able bodied players would not have the balance issues and could use this to an unfair advantage, right? I have been at "exhibition" type games where wheelers play against AB people (and naturally always beat the crap out of them) and this is nice to see, but I don't think the sports should be integrated. Since the wheelers are obviously excluded from the NBA and the NFL, I think it's only fair that they have their own leagues.

I have to wonder just what the lower functioning players actually do on the court. I'd geuss that a single 3.0 is more effective than, say, two 1s and two .5s.
