Thoughts on possible books for the next chat:
1. Paradox---One of the stories? Several if them?
2. The Write Man for Her--- A romance story about a woman who takes a writing class and falls for her professor, who turns out to be a paraplegic.
3. Moving Violations---John Hockenberry's autobiography. He is a paraplegic journalist and war correspondent, really good writing, really good personality
A movie

So next chat......let's schedule one soon! I know some people said Tuesdays were good. Maybe March 14th.
Maybe we will need to wait a little longer of we are going to read a book.

A movie is a great idea. There are TONS of dev movies I haven't seen. Who has a good suggestions? Try to make it something that is also easily accessible to everyone.

I'm trying to think of some that people might not have seen, but I'm drawing a blank. The Waterdance is the most devy, I think, of any movie I think Pumpkin would be an interesting discussion, since it is about a girl who falls for a mentally disabled man. Very odd movie.

Oh, and MonkeyShines has some good dev moments, though the plot is total crap.

OMG 2 AM you guys are crazy! No way I could have stayed up that late.
If you want to schedule a book club chat in March, go for it, but I won't be able to participate, so someone else will have to take the lead.
We've mentioned the book Moving Violations several times. I don't think it's online (although maybe part of it is on google books?) but if you're in the US you can probably get it from a library, and this may be true in some other countries too. Anyway I vote for that one for a later chat, maybe in April.

I read a good dev book recently - Streets of Fire by Judith Duncan. The "hero" had TBI, so is paralyzed down one side of his body. There are some pretty good dev scenes, I'd recommend. I got a used copy through Amazon, it's not available online either. I have to reorganize my bookshelves... all my dev books are mixed in with my other stuff!

I just ordered a copy of Due Nati Volte (Born Twice) that i'm reading in Italian but there's the english translation available, which doesn't have the "dev factor" so much, but shows a lot of the struggle with having a disability. I fell in love with the main disabled character, Paolo, he's just such a sweet boy and lives every day as if he isn't disabled at all. It's a lovely book, a movie was made based on it if people would prefer to watch that, Le Chiavi Di Casa (The Keys to The House). The movie is very cutting edge and raw, but most European/foreign movies seem to be like that. It was truly an experience watching it with the subtitles turned off, it felt a lot more... genuine. I saw so much more because I didn't have to concentrate on the words running across the bottom of the screen!

Decision must be made!
Here is my vote:
I say Moving Violations for April, so Devogirl can participate. It's a great book, I read it years ago and got it from the library. Hockenberry is a well-known figure, so it should be easy to find a copy I think.
I say Pumpkin, a movie, for March. There isn't a lot of devy-ness to it (there is a cute sci at the end), but I think it will generate a very interesting conversation. I'm curious myself whether the writers were intending to write about a dev and got it wrong!
What do you say?
