So Devogirl and I have been working on a redesign of the site to bring it into 2011. Most of the design work is done, we're just being a little lazy about transferring data over. But also, I'm a little concerned about the redesign of the stories page and I'd like to hear some opinions.
The archive will still be available, but I'd like to change posting of stories to a forum format like this one. The features of this are:
1) Trusted authors such as Ruth or Annabelle will have access to post their own stories. Not everyone will have access so I can exert some degree of quality control.
2) Comments will be available directly to the authors and I won't have to forward them
3) Stories will be posted on a single page, rather than having it divided into different parts. (Not sure if this is good or not.)
The downside is that it's something new and different, and I'm not sure how well it will work.
Any thoughts?

I like the idea of it being in a forum format but I think that all authors should be able to have access to edit, add, or delete their stories. And it did read a bit like, all Hail Ruth and Annabelle, the mighty Dev authors (even though they are). Surely the reader can do their own quality control by bypassing the no so good stories, mind you I don't know how many submissions you get. I quite like the different parts from the author's point of view, though I am a bit shabby with getting my next part out for Blue Skies (over a year).
Ultimately I think it would be a good thing for it to be more incorporated into the message board sections so you can see when a new story is added and read it with out leaving the main heart of the site.

Tabby: I didn't realize you were the one who wrote Blue Skies. There have been a lot of comments asking for you to finish the story.
By quality-control, I didn't mean leaving out stories that aren't brilliant or whatever. More along the lines of keeping the stories board from getting cluttered with irrelevant junk and/or spam. If someone like you sent me a story like Blue Skies and said you wanted access to post future chapters without going through me, I'd give it to you. I'm pretty sure you're not going to start posting ads for Viagra. But I wouldn't want to let anyone have free reign. I just mentioned Annabelle and Ruth because they're the only ones who have actually submitted anything to me in the last year or so.

If we don't like it, can we put it back the way it was? I'm all for trying something new, but I want an escape plan! One thing that concerns me is if the comments would end up in the page with the story, like when Lucrecia posts updates on Sean. I find it distracting that the post is full of comments about the story as well as parts of the story, but of course I also want there to be a way to comment and all that. Oh, and i'm sure there are many more "trusted" authors than just me and Annabelle. I think Lee just means that there needs to be a little bit of moderation or else you can end up with some very weird stuff. You should see some of the impossible-to-read comments I get on my blog! And of course with sexuality based stories, you could get some very nasty and mean-spirited stuff posted. But there could be something like if a person has posted 20 times in the main forums, they are cleared to put up stories...? Something like that?

I think that's a GREAT idea! Jumping from where the stories are posted to the comment threads gets confusing, and having the entire story on one page would make reading easier. I agree, Lee, I think there should be some filter, but as to implementing it... One question: would there be an option to post stories anonymously? That would be something I personally would appreciate.

Ooh, I like the anonymous idea as I get v v shy at the thought of revealing my stories.
And a big sorry to lee, Ruth and Annabel, I may well have taken too many of my sarcasm pills this morning.

Ruth: I'm not deleting the old stories page, so yes, we could go back to the old one. I'm hoping that won't happen though. I like the fact that I won't have to post every story and you guys can be a little self-sufficient.
The plan for comments is that each story will have a link at the bottom where comments can be posted anonymously so they WON'T interfere with the flow of the story. Nobody will be able to post or comment to the stories board without author status.
In order to be an "author" with ability to start new posts, all you would have to do would show me a first chapter or complete story or something that shows you are serious in some way. And have the desire to be an author. If you want me to post your work for you, I'm happy to do so.
z28gal: I don't know exactly what you mean by "posting anonymously." Aren't you anonymous on here? I have no idea who you are in real life. But if you want to send me your chapters to post, I can do that for you.

I like the idea of editing our own stuff... which is the only reason I posted Sean the way I did, because I wasn't sure if/when I'd continue it... I miss him. I should do some more with him... LOL Yes!

Oooooh, now I'm going to have a read of Sean. I felt the same way about mine and am going to get another part ready.
