Hello everyone,
I'm a 21-year-old guy who is in a wheelchair. I can't use my legs which I suppose is pretty obvious, but my arms work nearly as normal.
The reason why I came to these boards is because even from some initial reading whilst I've been lurking around I have felt welcome! Being welcome is quite a rare thing for me because of my disability. This does not mean that I am depressed or anything like that, quite the opposite in fact! It just does get very tiring being thought of an asexual being when I am definitely the opposite!
So I just want to say again hello to everyone here. I look forward to coming out of the shadows and actually interacting with you all.
Feel free to ask me any questions. I'm shy, but if asked I'm sure I can make an exception! After all, why else am I here?

Ct, you also bring up an interesting thing, being thought of as asexual. Why do you think that is? It's so hard for me to understand the perspective of the average person. Men with disabilities are so attractive to me that it is difficult/impossible to see it any other way. Almost every person is sexual and has the biological drive for closeness, why do people assume it isn't there when people have disabilities?

It's short sightedness, but a lot of society figures if you're paralyzed, and dwnstairs don't work, then you've lost your sexuality. I'd say in some cases this s true. I've met guys that gave up on sex, but ahhhhh, the 'secret weapon' is a creative sexual mind that finds ways to the Gold Medal. lol Look, some guys have this; some don't. I'd say MOST AB guys don't despite having the tool working. Society (I think) realizes we need closeness, they just don't get that we need/want/crave/lust/pant for a girl's hmmmmmmmm....; )
Good topic....welcome, bro!!

Thanks everyone for the welcome!
In response to Ruth in particular regarding being thought of as asexual, I believe that notion comes from the perception or in some cases the real need that many people with a disability have to be cared for. Needing someone to care for you gives people the impression that you cannot do anything for yourself. I suppose it is much like the perception of a child.
So yes, I think that is where the perception of a sexuality and wheelchairs comes from. I really hope it can change!

Yup hope ya have a blast.... and as for the asexual thing i think it is that if your man parts are not working or having sensation then most people think you do not want or need sexual stimulation of anykind

I hear ya bro mine dose also. However most people assume that if you are in a chair that all the parts don't work. Therefore we get mislabled as asexual by some.
