Ok! So there was some discussion earlier about holding a devs-only book club skype chat on Tuesday, May 10. What do you all think?
As for the selection, as it's less than 2 weeks away, it doesn't give us much time to read anything substantial. Ruth suggested doing a second round on Moving Violations, since not many people reread it, and we didn't talk about it that much last time. That's ok with me, if you all are interested. Or we could find a short fanfic or youtube video, something online we could access easily. Any ideas?

Yes yes, yes! I was meaning to post something about this. I'm happy to re-visit Moving Violations since I'm still reading it (yes, I'm slow at times). I'd love to have a discussion about our fav you tube videos. That would be interesting I love having you around more Devogirl!

The date works for me and I'm also up for more discussion of Moving Violations. I agree with Emma, it would be really fascinating to do a YouTube discussion of each of our favorite clips sometime. We could share them ahead of time here and then talk about them...

Oh noooo! I have exams that week. I'll be optimistic and say I'll study ahead so I don't have to cram that night. ohh boy, pulling out the youtube videos? This could get fun. ;D

All right, so we are on for next Tuesday, round two on Moving Violations. 8 PM Eastern US time. All devs are welcome to join in (whether you've read the book or not, but we do encourage you to look at it). For those who are new, we use skype conference call. If you are new and want to join in, PM your skype user name to me or Emma or Ruth.
Emma, do you mind hosting the chat? Thank you!

That's 2 am for me, so despite this being the only book I have 2 copies of (one keeper and 1 loaner - I love it that much!) I'll just enjoy the post-club chatter on the board...

I was thinking, maybe we should start chat a little earlier to allow some of the women from Europe and Africa to participate w/o it being 2am. Merry, Cake, devodiva, blue eyes, our trooper M&M and all the others I'm forgetting would you be more able to participate? I think I'm the most west participant and would be happy and able to start earlier. Could the others who regularly participate start earlier? How about 6:00 or 7:00 EST?

i barely make it home, rushing, by 8pm EST. and i'm usually late. so no, earlier definitely doesn't work for me.
8pm EST seems to have worked well for most of us. my vote would be for keeping it as is. i've gone out of my way to read the books and make it to the chats and i have really enjoyed them. i'd hate to now not be able to participate.
there was talk about scheduling a second chat for the people overseas but as far as i know, no one took the initiative...

Yes, it would be nice if we could start earlier, if possible .

Well, now that I have a decent internet connection I might try to join. I should probably dig up my old copy of the book.
Anyway, yeah, as an European resident, starting earlier would be really nice. Maybe we could start the chat and then have people join us later?

why don't the european devs schedule a chat time that works best for them?
then, whoever wants to or is available to join either or both chats, can... while at the same time keeping the chats at workable times for the segment of people in those time zones?

The time isn't the issue for me. Unfortunately, I am booked on Tuesday's through the end of the year (graduate school class). It's obviously too late to change the day in May; but going forward could we hold some on other days as well? Wednesdays work really well.
