Skype tells me that I have a free trial of group video calls. If we are maximum ten people in chat and all of us have Skype 5.0 we can chat with web cam too for free  . Should we try it? |

I doubt everyone has the newest version of skype. I don't mind being on cam but think others may not feel comfortable with it. Maybe we can discuss it during chat and see what others think. I can't wait to catch up with everyone tonight.

Updating to the new Skype version should be easy and quick. If some of the chatters do not want to use web cam, they can just cover it during the chat, while the rest of us can see each other.
If we can get it to work it would be great. When it comes to communicating it is definitely better if we can see each other I think.
We´ll see.

I looked at the Skype website and you need to have a premium (ie paid) account to get group video calling. It's not free. And you can't have some people with video and some without, everyone has to be using 5.0 or later or it won't work, according to their site.
Also I have found the updates on skype very unstable on a Mac, they cause all kinds of problems which is why I do not want to update right now. We have enough problems keeping the connection just with sound alone, and some people can't even get the sound to work right. I don't want to introduce more problems.
In any case, I am opposed to video for group chats. I understand wanting to see someone's face, but I am serious about protecting my privacy. You all are free to set up a group video chat if you want, but I choose not to participate.

Honestly, I don't think keeping track of more than two faces would be very feasible. I probably won't make it to the chat tonight. Computer issues+guests+sleepiness are making it not seem so likely. |

Devogirl, I said in my post that I had a FREE trial - and if I started the group call, I was hoping that no one would have to pay and I also stated the thing about the version of Skype  . The film discussion in chat last night was great! I really liked the film, so thank you for suggesting it. The absence of explosions, the f-word and hot bikini babes makes me want to re-watch it  . |
