In the last live chat, Lava was complaining that she couldn't find any youtube videos with blind guys, and I promised I would share some with her. Sorry it's taken me like a month to get around to it. On the other hand, think of this as getting in the mood for this month's book club chat!

Cool, thanks Devogirl. It did help me get geared up for the book club. I'm a very visual person so it helped me understand what blindness looks like better. I have had so little experience with it.

I really enjoyed the clip Journey with RP, cool guy. Do blindness devs not like the other famous echolocation guy, Ben Underwood? I loved the documentary about him and his attitude towards his disability.

Haha, thanks, I guess! I actually nearly quit watching that video a few minutes in because he was such a jerk, obviously playing up for the camera. But the real blind guy was so much cooler and better looking, it made it worthwhile.

Not to mention that the whole "put on a blindfold and see what it's like to be blind" idea is so dumb. Just as bad as the so-called educational efforts of sitting in a wheelchair for a few hours to see what SCI is like. It doesn't really teach anything and is nothing like the reality.

Not to dis the clips from movies and TV shows, but I like watching real people. As you all know, there is a lot more to SCI than just sitting in a wheelchair, and in the same way there is more to acting blind than just holding a white cane, but so few actors bother to try for any kind of realism. It really bugs me.

I have seen the videos of Ben Underwood. So sad that he died.
