I find it interesting that most people on this site refer to female devotees as "devo's".
On another site, female devotees were always referred to as "dev's". I find that name a bit more attractive and sexy sounding than "devo."
For some reason, everytime I see myself or another dev referred to as "devo", I just have these mental images of men in strange plastic red hats. Maybe it's an age thing... dunno.

"Dev" sounds like "deb" and perhaps conjures up images of the fresh-faced debutante!

;D i would say its an age thing cuz i see the same dudes in their round cylindrical hats telling me to "whipit good!".....but that also sez i wouldnt be interested in a "dev/deb"...as eye candy, perhaps ,,,but i would be much more interested in an "admirer" (another term ive seen used) with a bit more experience and attitude than one would expect from a "debutante"...but then im kinda from out in left field

I pronounce it just like "devo"... but without the "o." So still the long E sound. So I'm a "deeeeeeev"... not a deb like "dev". Although.... I am from the south... and very deb-like... lol.
Hey and what is the difference between a dev and an admirer anyway?
PS... mrjeffurz, I'm glad you knew about Devo... I feel a little less old now. But now I have "Workin' in a coal mine" stuck in my head.

Oh my God, are we at the point where knowing about the 'De-evolution Band' dates you. But, but they were so cutting edge in 1980!
Ok folks...I propose Deva. Pronounced 'dayva'. It means 'goddess' in Sanskrit.

I hate them all. All of these words. "Devotee" (and all of its derivatives) is such a lame descriptor.

I like it! In Romance languages, the "a" ending would also denote femininity. However, where does that leave the likes of Lee? Would he have to be a "devus"?

Lee could just stay a devo.... he'd look cute in a red hat, I'm sure of it Plus, Devo sounds masculine.

Well, I'm glad people are thinking of me... and you're right, I'm sure I'd look cute in a red hat. I actually think I prefer dev too. I definitely get "whip it" in my head when someone says devo. Dunno why I started saying devo instead of dev.... I'm not clever enough to come up with it on my own. Maybe devogirl got me started? But no, I think I was paradevo before I met her.

I may have made a bit of a mistake in my Sanskrit: I think Deva actually means a particular type of (male) god. I think the feminine would be Devi.
I'm just enough of a pedant that I had to correct that even though I know *no one* cares...

i have to say the label of "devo" in regards to myself and my attraction to disabled men gives me a kind of icky and pervy feeling. sort of like "porno" vs. just "porn"... i don't feel that way when its used towards others or en mass...ie. reading messages on the board, and i think devogirl is a cute handle, etc. but in my head i am more comfortable thinking of myself as a "dev" (with a short "e", vs. a long one) its just a sound thing for me. i think it also sounds more "casual", like more of a "something i like" vs. a fanaticism. whatever!
