Ok! I have finally posted my review of Farsighted over on the blog. Check it out! It's not the best-written book, but it is fun and pretty devvy in parts. If you're a blind-guy dev looking for a new e-book, I recommend it.

I just finished a young adult fantasy book, Graceling by Kristin Cashore: amzn.com/0547258305Wow, this book was amazing. At first I didn't really get into the Ren Faire/Lord of the Rings lite setting, but by the end I was totally captivated by the characters. And there is a blind character who shows up at the very very end. I don't want to say anything more, because the surprise is part of what makes it so good, but I got a huge devo thrill even in those last few pages. Besides, it's an excellent novel in its own right, with a strong female lead and a believable love interest for her. Way way more satisfying than all those crappy romances I've been reading lately. If you enjoy fantasy fiction, I can't recommend it enough, and the devvy ending is like the cherry on top. Resurrecting a very old thread to say the sequel to Graceling has finally been published. Ok, it came out a few months ago but I only just now got around to reading it. It's called Bitterblue, and I really enjoyed it a lot. Again, it's not exactly a dev book, the blindness aspect is really minor. But Po and Katsa are in it again, as well as many of the other great secondary characters. In a note at the end, the author says she has been educated on including disabled characters since she wrote the first book, and tried to do a better job in this one. Again, not a huge dev thrill, but since I like the characters and her writing style so much, it was satisfying. Definitely worth a read if you read the first book. I'm looking at you, Lavly!

Fire is technically a "companion" volume to Graceling, because the events take place about 50 years before, and all the characters are different. But Bitterblue follows the events of Graceling with most of the same characters. I skipped Fire, and had no trouble following the plot of Bitterblue. But now I think I may go back and read it.

Oh and since I've bumped up this thread, I should mention that the sequel to Farsighted is also out: amzn.com/B0084H1262It's called Open Heart. No idea if it's good or not.

Haha, yeah, the ending of Farsighted was very X-men. According to the description, the sequel goes back to more teen angst plotlines. It's about Alex's girlfriend. Hard to tell if it's any good, since the author has all her little elves giving her 5 star reviews on Amazon.

I believe Emlyn is planning a third book from the point of view of the first book's "bully" and (spoiler), I think it is planned to have that character be in a wheelchair from an SCI.

OMG!... LOL... I´ve just finished "Farsighted"... at least for me (it is just my point of view) it is one of the less dev books ever!! I can´t say it is a sci-fi book either. And I suppose it is VERY young adult!
