Inigo wrote: "Look, eddie's just trying to get a date here." LOL ;D LC -- Inigo's right that I am definitely not an Ayn Rand fan. But putting that aside, obviously, if people break the law, you can arrest them. And most true civil disobedience-ers WANT to get arrested (see Gandhi and MLK) because the whole point is to bring attention to the cause. It is civil DIS-obedience. So as long as the protestor is compliant with the arrest, what is wrong with that? Further, if Occupy-ers are violating existing rules, they can be prohibited from doing so. If the tents are *actually* prohibiting pedestrian passage, they can be removed. If people are littering or committing assaults, they can be cited for those offenses. But this is not as issue with my clients. In my situation, the state simply tried to place restrictions on activities that did NOT violate currently-existing laws. The problem with the government's response to the Occupy movement is that they are creating and imposing new regulations and restrictions for use of public property - that were not properly passed under state laws and which were never applied to others. Thankfully, under our constitution, ya can't create one set of rules to apply to certain speakers and another set of rules to apply to others. And there is procedure to follow -- we are a country of laws and due process; we don't allow officials to create laws by mere fiat. So there.

Inigo is just teasing - they can protest whatever they like as long as they stay within the law.
And as for your actions - since I do not approve of civil forfeiture within the law I certainly do not approve of asset seizure outside the law.

That is just too uninteresting to me, and ultimately too easy to ignore I think. Aren't some of these "protesters" chanting their rhymes nude? If Americans were literally starving (not due to much avoidable homelessness) something like this might stir up enough controversy to awake a sleeping monster. Even poor Americans have far better lives than middle class Africans, Taiwanese, Vietnamese, ... Before somebody complains that it is the middle class who is feeling it the hardest, though the case may be, you can only fit so many mansions in an area as big as the United States unless you really really screw over the rest of the world. I think the US does quite enough in the "screwing over the underprivileged of the third world"

It may be true that we (or US companies) are screwing over the third world....but on the Occupy movement, it has *already* awoken a sleeping monster. Even people who are far removed from the people in the movement itself have begun to think about the income disparity in our country and the fairness or unfairness of our system. ....And so many believe it is now time to subvert the dominant paradigm (even if in their own small way).

These protests all over the U.S has spread almost worldwide by th Occupy movement! Even in little Sweden there has been protests in many cities. Not as big as the N.Y march but anyway. If it wasn´t so goddamn cold outside i would have joined them. The social securities for disabled/sick ppl have been worse and worse here in Swe due to privetising healthcare and much more. It´s all about the money nowdays, its sick! Eddieb: Props to you for supporting Occupy!

I'll concede, change in our system is needed... but "Occupy" isn't the way to affect it and is doomed to failure.
Poorly organized, no strategic vision or mission, unsynchronized, leaderless, internally ungoverned... they lost me at lice, scabies, ringworm, Parvo, TB, rape, murder, public lewdness, and drug overdoses.

Oops, forgot I'm trying to get a date. So back to audrew's comment on keeping my 'bad boy' image....Audrew, I agree. In college (back when George Michael was singing 'I Want Your Sex' and 'Father Figure' and before he came out as gay following a little 'misunderstanding' at a park), my friends all agreed one night that I was a combination of Fozzie Bear and Geroge Michael -- Fun and goofy...but always exuding that ever-present sense of sensuality. And while the outward expression of it may ebb or flow over time, those essential elements within me always remain. So....Wakka-wakka, baby.

Phew, glad you did not drift away from the sole purpose of this thread. These guys have tried to hijack ;D your thread and sabotage ;D your chance to get a date by debating the politics. Bear in mind, all the single male in this board could be competitors, admit it or not. I can see your marketing skill is improving, wooohooooo! Now tell us what kind girl you like, age range, body type, education level...... dont be shy, cross the unsuitable ones out first. Remember, you are a successful human right lawyer and a bad boy indeed, you have the right to choose. ;D Life is too short, you have no time to waste lol.......... ;D ;D ;D

I get it LC, the "Occupy-ers" are dirty, stinky hippies. But you are attacking the messengers, not the message. And the message, regardless of who says it, is no less significant or moving.
Wait; wasn't the message of this thread that I am one cool dude who seeks to connect with a cool dude-ess?

Interesting times! Is Capitalism doomed to failure,? Was Marx right all along? Will this be the start of a groundswell in western countries? Or are the Neo liberalists correct with their ideas of meritocracy?
Sounds like a first year Sociology assignment.
In other News.... Eddie have you had a date yet or have any of those secret admirers been writing?

My friends would not be wasting their time and money on the occupiers if they thought they were just a bunch of dirty hippies but I can understand the OWS and TP protesters frustration. As for the message of the thread you are absolutely correct - and I think your chances are lot better than the protesters. LC
