I know that we have several anime fans here. Could you... would you recommend good anime with disabled characters? I'm actually trying to start watching more movies and would appreciate recommendations. I know we've got a manga thread somewhere ... do we have an anime thread? (If we do I'll delete... ;D)

I love love love Shigurui, but it is SUPER violent and not for everyone. The manga is fan translated online, and the anime DVD was released with subtitles in the US. IMHO the character design of the manga is more attractive than the anime.
Like I said in the other thread, a lot of anime with disabled guys is dissatisfying to me so I don't have a lot of recommendations. Til Death Do Us Part has a blind guy, but I couldn't get into it. Another favorite of mine is The Rose of Versailles, the love interest, Andre, becomes blind, but not until close to the end of the story, if you're not into the story of the French Revolution, it's probably not worth it just for that.
I'm drawing a blank on others right now...let me think on it more...

I agree with DG... Shiguri is great but... not for everybody. I loved "Til death do us part"... though it´s really long... and long. Then you have the manga Real... other amazing one!... Let me search my list of manga and anime.... I will make you a list.

Oh yes, Real! That is the best. I'm hoping that can be a book club selection at some point in the future. And I know it's online, but if you live in the US and can afford it, please by the translations from the publisher. Show them there is an audience for it!
There are several blind characters in Koga Ninja Scroll, which I thought was only ok, not great. Also all the kids love Naruto, although I could never get into it, I guess I'm too old. Anyway the character Itachi is blind at least part of the time, he seems to be a great favorite with the fans.

Oh and one more, this is manhwa, comics from Korea. The title is Can't See Can't Hear But Love. It's a love story between a blind guy and a deaf girl. They story alternates between showing their life together, and flashbacks to when the guy lost his sight in his 20s. It's a webcomic so the formatting is really different from print comics. The story is complete but the scanlation only starts with chapter 4, unfortunately. Still it looks really sweet, I think still worth reading even if you miss the first few chapters. Scanlations can be downloaded here: mezzoflation.blogspot.sg/2012/02/chapter-48.htmlGo up through the posts to find more chapters, I think there are 70 total. Here is the original if you want to look at the early chapters: cartoon.media.daum.net/webtoon/view/nosee#10The same artist (who goes by the name Nasty Cat) also has a series called Living With One Leg. You can find scanlations on the same website. Could the writer be a dev???

Dance Subaru is great, I really enjoyed it. I enjoyed "Scent of love" too I still have to read Spiritual Police and Dokunoaji (in my list to add them to the manga folder) And, truth be told: "Cant see, Cant hear but love" was too boring (I repeat... it is my POV)

I'm slowly making my way through all this manga...at some point I'll post a big review but for now here are a few suggestions.
I'm really enjoying Can't See Can't Hear But Love. I don't think it's boring but it does have a very spare style, with lots of empty space and repeated static frames. It's definitely a particular style you see a lot in "slice of life" manga/manhwa. The translation is not great though.
I'm about halfway through the Dance! Subaru sequel, Moon. I skipped the original and went straight to the sequel, because that's the one with the blind guy. And he's super hot! I've been enjoying that one a lot too, although the writing is fairly juvenile, and the translation is not good. It's translated into English from the Chinese translation of the Japanese original, always a bad sign. The scanlater inserts her own opinions and comments into the story a lot too.
I also really like Venus ni Seppun. I know you guys talked about that a while back--wow, I can't believe I didn't check it out until now. A crazy, super kinky M-M story about a guy who cuts off his lover's arms. It's not the slightest bit realistic, but as gonzo erotic fantasy it's super devvy. But where are the next volumes?
Kingyou Sou is also good. It's for younger readers--a very chaste romance between a high school girl and a college boy who's deaf. It's pure fluff, but the depiction of the deaf character is surprisingly realistic, way better than the average romance, so that makes it worth reading to me.

Venus ni Seppun is having a sequel... I have the first "scene" and it seems to be much more "kinky". Another very "kinky", M-M short story is "Agnus Dei - Lamb of God" Anya Kouru is a short story and it is pretty sweet.
