Wow, that must be so excting for you Ruth! I just had a look at it and read a few pages in the preview. It's so weird to see this stuff in my mother tongue  Like Dani, I much much much prefer to read in English. BTW, is the person who translated it a German native speaker? I ask because unfortunately, I spotted some weird translating there, kind of like one-to-one wording form English to German. |

That is what worries me Cake...that they translate it all weird and stuff....then it takes away from the meaning....

I have a friend that was kinda "jealous" about my english writings on FB so he used the Google Translator to "translated me" (he knows nothing of english)... it turned to be sooo funny because some parts were ok, but there were parts awfully translated!!
jajaja.... I can imagine what a book translated that way could be!

Oh yeah, that would be terrible! Google translate and other automated ones have some serious problems! You can usually figure out what they mean, but they are far from correct.
I hired a lovely woman on fiverr.com to do the translations. She was very reasonable in her pricing and I decided to give it a go, considering how dev centric Germany seems to be!
However, Cake, you're right that I did have someone else also tell me that there were some oddities in the translation. Not sure what to do about that. I don't speak or read German at all (not yet, anyway!) so I really can't check it. My friend Ryoo is reading it over now to give me some advice as she is also a German speaker. The woman I hired said she was a native, but it is the Internet, so it's hard to know.

Yeah Ruth, I can see how it's diffucult for you to tell if someone's a good translator when you don't speak the language. That women may be lovely, but I suspect she doesn't understand what translating really means. It's NOT taking the words and putting them into another language 1:1, but taking the essence of a sentence and putting it into NEW words. It bothers me because it doesn't do your writing justice at all Ruth. You're pretty decent at putting feeling into words, and her translation looks like being written by a child in comparison  Sorry. However, it definitely is great to see your book sold in another language, that's a big step for your writing career and for devotee literature! (If you ever need another translator, I'll be happy to do it, I have done translations from English to German and vice-verca and consider myself a good writer . Just in case ) |

Ok, so it sounds like I really need to read Ruth's German translated book just to see how it sounds and feels....I will let you know then Ruth!
