Do You Believe in Miracles?
I believe in miracles because I am a living miracle. It was the month of October and the leaves were beginning to turn colors and fall from the trees. At the time I was living in the city of Los Angeles on 104th and Western with my girlfriend Charisse and her son Elijah. I was currently working, with three friends of mine, on a rap album to produce a demo to shop around and help us find a record deal. One day at the studio me, Darius, and Anthony were having leisure time playing video games. Q wasn't present this day, so we decided not to record music and take the day off. Anthony and Darius were playing the videogame, and I was patiently waiting for my turn. Darius just finished beating Anthony, and it was now my turn, but Anthony said, "That was just a practice round and I would have to wait." I was upset but I remained calm and let him play again. The second time he tried that, I was furious. I stood up and said, "I ain't no punk bitch," as I slapped him in his face. Previously before this day, Q and Anthony would always pick on me and I would always shine it on. They were never physical but always verbally abusive to me. So after I slapped him in his face, Darius jumped up and said, "Ya'll better take the shit outside, man." Once we got outside, I hit him as hard as I could with a right hook and knocked in him into the bushes. At this point, Anthony was very upset but did nothing and now I, still with a smile on my face, jokingly said, "Are you sure you want to do this?" Anthony just stood there in frustration, so I walked past him and went inside Darius' house and began playing the videogame.
Anthony was a cousin to Q and once Q found out what had happened to his cousin, they began making plans on jumping me. I continued to go to the studio as usual, but neither Q nor Anthony ever returned until about a week later. When I was leaving the studio, he was outside waiting for me. He yelled at me and said, "I like to see you do to me what you did to my cousin." Being the individual I am, I did exactly what he asked for but this time much worse. Then a few weeks later, one of their friends from the gang they were from was waiting outside of my apartment for me. At this time, I did not know that he was their friend. As I walked into the apartment building he followed in behind me and said, "Give me all your money or I'm going to shoot you." At this point I turned around and noticed him drawing a gun from his back pocket. I immediately ran up the stairs that were off to the right and was lucky he didn't shoot me at that time. At this point, I realized how serious the situation had gotten.
I went into the apartment and I prayed the David's prayer, "Father Help me in this situation. Help change my mind, my heart, my spirit, and the flesh. Father, I know at this point it's either I or they. Give me a sign on what I should do." At this point I thought about the first person I could get a gun from, which was my father, so I immediately contacted him. I said, "Dad some guy just pulled a gun out on me and you told me if I was ever in trouble to come to you." My father said, "I don't think that would be wise to give you the gun, son. Maybe there are some other options." At this point all I could think of is that God didn't want me to go that route. I had the key to my father's house and he wasn't home at the time. I could have easily gone and got it and took care of the situation, but within my heart I knew it wasn't the right thing to do.
A few months had gone by and at this point I assumed that the situation was not as severe. One day on my way to the store, my buddy Edee stops me and asked me, "Where are you going?" I replied and said, "To the store to get a blunt." He asked me, "Wait for a minute. I'll go to the store with you. Just let me go change." I was waiting outside on the corner for him to get ready just as Q, Anthony, and Baby Dirty drove by. Baby Dirty was another one of their friends from their gang and he was known for killing. When they drove by, they were all staring in my direction with the mad dog look in their faces. As they drove up the block I noticed them turn on Baby Dirty's street. At this point, I assumed they had the gun. Because not even a few moments after, they drove by again, this time only to circle the block. I was still standing in the same spot waiting on my friend Edee so we could go to the store. But this time when they circled the block, Q got out of the car with a gun. I did not notice any of this happening. I learned from witnesses that while he ran up on me, he shot two times, striking me in my face, which knocked me to the ground, and while I was down, he shot me four more times in my back. One shot entered right by my left eye and the bullet stopped right behind my right eye. Another bullet was lodged behind my jawbone on the left side of my face. Another bullet went into my stomach, two more in my left lung, and the one that left me paralyzed went to my right rib cage and hit my spinal cord.
I have learned a very valuable lesson from the situation, and that is never to be so quick to anger. Because of the situation, I've had to readjust my whole way of life. I also learned that if it was not for that day, I would either be dead or in jail, but now I have the opportunity to be successful and share my testimony with anyone that's willing to hear. The individual that shot me Q was arrested for a different attempted murder case because I did not want to lie in court and say it was him, knowing that I didn't see him. I put the situation in God's hands and because of that I can speak of this miracle today.
