Welcome! Enjoy and have fun! P.S. Great choice in music, btw! ;D P.P.S. I love the Greek mythos reference too. Good eye for Greek mythology. This is an artist's rendition of Hephaestus that I want tattooed on my calf: As for music, yeah, dood (sorry I call everybody dood). Kid A might be the greatest album of the 2000's. Although I sometimes feel like In Rainbows is better. It depends on my mood. Aaand now I'm rocking out to freaking Idioteque instead of writing. Thanks.

I love the tattoo idea; the image is quite original. I've seen quite a few artists' renditions, but never this one. No worries, you can call me "dood" - I often do the same thing. I agree with you re: Kid A (obviously!), but I hear what you're saying about In Rainbows. I immediately fell in love with that album and it seems to get better with every listen. I'm not sure it will ever take the place of OK Computer in my eyes, but it has certainly withstood the test of time. I look forward to hearing what they come up with next, though admittedly, The King of Limbs doesn't even compare to In Rainbows. Here's to hoping . . . Also, if there is anything by which one is distracted away from writing, there is little better than rocking out to Idioteque! Damn, I think I know what my driving soundtrack will be to the city . . . IDIOTEQUE ON REPEAT! ;D

Immanuel Kant once said that reading David Hume awakened him from his "dogmatic slumbers." I think listening to OK Computer did the same for me in high school. After that first listen, my mind was reeling. Basically, my brain was like: "Dooooood." And I was like: "I know." It's kind of stupid how good Radiohead is. Like, for some reason I'm really pissed off about it. It's too much. Have you ever heard of Sparklehorse? or Vic Chesnutt, for that matter?

Also, King of Limbs was why I think they should break up so as to preserve their authenticity. I do not want to see a pruny Thom Yorke strutting on stage 30 years from now like a cloned velociraptor the way the Rolling Stones continue to do today.

That tat idea is gorgeous! It's way cool, I know. I'll try to find the artist's website so as to give credit where it's due.

I, too, was excited that we now had a Hephaestus.... and then (please don't be offended) disappointed that you were only 21. But we've had lots of really cool youngsters join up lately. You among them. Y'all are bringing a fun, interesting flavor to the board right now. I'm digging it. Why has googleing for Hephaestus art never occurred to me before? Sigh.

It was the first album I ever procured on my own and ever since it has been stationed in a special corner of my heart. I will always love Radiohead, and in a way, they can do know wrong in my eyes. I'll take Thom Yorke at his old and gray stage just as readily as his bleached-hair 90's-chic self. I know KoL wasn't their best, but after being floored by In Rainbows, I know they have it in them to continue making great music. As for Sparklehorse, yes, I've heard of them, but I'm not the biggest fan, though honestly, I haven't heard much of their material, so my judgment may be ill-informed. I've yet to hear of Vic Chesnutt, but will certainly check him out.

And also, something makes me think that liking Princess Bride will always tie us together into the same age group at heart. Seriously, we're all the same age when we watch that movie. I didn't know so many people were privy to Hephaestus. I feel like I opened up a fresh can of Awesome People by joining this site. You're all like me [twinkly eyes]!

The way I got into his music was by reading that he had passed away. I saw that he was in a chair, so I Googled him. Then I heard this song (take note, Kid A): Genius...

I ask only because I have this instinct to feel out people's musical palettes so as to more easily create mixes in the possible future. It's like one of the only footholds I have when making conversation: cracking open that musical nut. So Sparklehorse: check. Vic Chesnutt: uncheck. I wonder if you'd like Stereolab. What I love so much about Radiohead is that they, in a way, "brought back" beauty. I mean I love Nirvana and Sonic Youth as much as the next '90s fan, but those bands were all still working within the same old anti-beauty punk paradigm. Radiohead just said nope -- we're going to be beautiful like the Beatles again. I think R.E.M. was beautiful when it wanted to be. And I argue My Bloody Valentine were too but my parents would probably disagree. Sorry, my rock journalist self is rambling...

And I argue My Bloody Valentine were too but my parents would probably disagree. Sorry, my rock journalist self is rambling... Yes, I agree, the most instant way in which I connect to people is usually through music. You have good instincts, btw; I LOVE STEREOLAB! Also, I'm totally for the idea of making mixes and trading music. We must pursue this further . . . I have much to share and I always love hearing new (or new to me) artists. I think you've hit on something in regards to your comments on Radiohead's contributions to music. Most bands from the 90s stayed within certain frameworks and genres, certainly, but Radiohead definitely redefined themselves and modern music altogether when they released OK Computer and Kid A a few years later. I'm a fan of R.E.M. and Sonic Youth and a big fan of Nirvana, but they don't quite move me in the same way Radiohead consistently has over the years. How to Disappear Completely has always been one of my favorite tracks and the reason is that I can completely lose myself in it, much like I do with songs like A Day in the Life. I could go on for days . . . maybe we should start a music-rant thread, eh?
