I'm new to the site and just thought I'd say hello. I've been looking for a place like this for quite a while. I am 28 and I've grown up with Spina Bifida. A week ago I underwent surgery for an amputation below the knee on my right leg. So I'm still getting used to that and coming to terms with it. It's always nice to have someone to talk to, so if anyone would like to chat feel free to drop me a message. I am an open book and I can hold my own with pretty much any topic. I hope to hear from some of you and hopefully I'll be around here for quite a while.

Welcome. Hugs to you. Hard to keep a chin up, but hopefully some fellowship here will at least humor you.

Hi, I was just wondering, is the amputation unconnected to your spina bifida? Also having that condition, does it mean you still have some function though limited? And p.s. welcome.

Hi Tabby. The amputation did have something to do with my Spina Bifida to an extent. It's because I had a wound that, due to the lack of circulation, was getting worse and worse no matter what was done. Just goes to show you really have to pay careful attention and get to a doctor very early on or it can lead to big problems. I still am leading the same life for the most part that I was. I'm still capable of all the same things. And thanks for the welcome.

Paraguy, there is at least one other member here who has dealt (very successfully) with your exact situation (SB - non healing wound - amputation). The outcome for his life, after all was said and done was love and marriage but that's a whole different story. Lol.

Hi, I asked because my husband has Spina Bifida and I wasn't aware of infections getting that bad. When he gets and insect bite it flares up and once we did have to go to the doctor's to get him anti biotics and I really wasn't very sympathetic classing it as him over worrying but now I think I will apply a whole series of lotions should it happen again. Also he has trouble with cuts sustained from crawling around on the floor, taking scabs off. Sorry if anyone is eating their lunch. Thanks Paraguy!
