Hi writers, I write a little for my own personal use and I am doing it on an old computer with Windows 7, saving my work on two memory sticks. I also wrote quite a bit of stuff by hand which I have started to type up but it takes forever. Just out of curiosity, what do you guys use to write with such as programs, type of computers and such??? I am thinking about getting some kind of notebook mainly for my writing because before I can even think about putting my stuff out there I need the right "supplies". Dani

I use Dragon naturally speaking to type and without it I wouldn't even be able to use the computer. It's very convenient and I can type just as fast or faster then before I was injured. It recognizes your voice and all you have to do is simply talk. You just need to make sure that your computer has enough processors to make it work properly.

I use a lot of things. Nowadays I mostly write on my phone or iPad or my desktop PC; rarely by hand anymore.
In terms of programs, on iPhone/iPad I use Pages or Google Drive; on PC I use Word Perfect, Scrivner, or Google Drive.
Lately I've been using Google Drive a lot because I can access my files on any device at any time and easily share with my writing partners/friends and it's easy to comment/make notes on a document.

I write a lot in the academic context, and I usually just use MS Word on my laptop (a MacBook pro 13 inch). I will say that I think writing on such a small screen has actually caused problems for my writing as you only see a smaller part of the text at a time. I never thought that would be a big deal, since it's really only a few lines, but my writing style feels more cramped these days. I think that has more to do with how it makes me feel than the actual amount of screen space since many people seem to write successfully on smaller devices.
I've been playing around with some fiction lately (nothing developed enough to post to the blog, but maybe some day...) and I've been using Scrivener for that, again on the MacBook. I like it for stories, and can see how it would be really useful for screenwriting, since it encourages you to break things up into segments and get organized, which is something I struggle with. I do find there are times when I need to bring all the segments together or else I end up with weird changes in tone or a lot of repetition, but Scrivener will let you do that easily.
I also kind of need either a busy, somewhat noisy setting (coffee shop is great) or a serious deadline to get into the swing of things. Those may not count as equipment but they are equally essential for me.

I'm in the same boat Rebecca! I do most of my writing in either MS Word on my 13" Mac Book Pro (If I need a big screen, I go to the library or into my office where they have 27" monitors. I occasionally write long hand in a composition book (I get a bunch in August when they're cheap and pull one out as needed). But, if I'm really tired or things aren't flowing, sometimes I'll just talk stuff through and record it on my iPhone than transcribe later. I like that especially when I'm driving, because for some reason miles of highway bring out my characters!
