Curious how many guys (either PWD or dev) are closeted? Been out as gay for years, never really had to come out socially, just to family to have them happy. Devwise it's different |

Curious how many guys (either PWD or dev) are closeted? I’ve been out as gay for ages to every one, really. Not so much about the dev part… seems like a few of us are in the same place I always wonder how many PWDs are closeted, especially ones with a higher level of disability who have no privacy and/or rely on family for their care and can't really afford to come out. Statistically they must exist, and I've been fortunate to meet a few. But it's definitely a challenge for both sides to break down the barrier. I for one would be very hesitant to message someone if they weren't already on a site like this one, for fear of being a creep. |

I wouldn’t have known I liked guys that much if a nurse hadn’t thought I was hot and molested me a lot. I’ll bet he was a dev except he was also an asshole so we didn’t last! I want to find one who’s not an asshole to help take care of me now! |

I’m openly gay to the world, as it were, but only “out” as a dev recently to a number of close friends, and then of course, to all of you here.

As a PWD I've been out as a gay person since I was in my 20s, so about 30 years now. I was out even when it was theoretical more than practical! I just felt it was important I was myself. But it did take a few years of convincing myself, in the 1990s, that it was the right thing to do. There was still a lot of homophobia in those days.
In terms of being interested in devs, that's a new development.
One of the things I find a bit challenging with this site is that you can't easily tell who is gay (although you can assume that the male dev members are gay or bi) and you also can't easily see where in the world people are as far as I can tell. I know it isn't designed to be a dating website but it could still help people with similar interests and geographies to connect and communicate

Hi All,
Steven in San Francisco California here. I'm 64, 5'11, 195, bearded and pleasantly hairy and a devotee. I've been connected to the disability community for quite some time.
I can tell you quite a few stories of how devotees and disabled dudes connected before the internet!
I am finally retiring from my career as a physical therapist and am taking a drive across country.
