My understanding is that modern trousers developed from leggings and hose. Centuries ago in European courts and among the nobility, a man's legs were considered to be objects of admiration and were thus shown off by tight leggings joined at the crotch with a codpiece(often 'enhanced') or under a short skirt. These are what became pants sometime in the early 1700's or so. Even then, below the knee hose were worn. Modern long pants only date from 1800 or so.
At least that's what I recall. The history of fashion is an interest of mine.

Triassic, in Regency England, the shape of a man's calf was an important thing - false ones were sold to and placed under the stocking. And may I just add? I think the shape of your calf is fiiinnnne.

Very true, European men did wear leggings in the past. All you have to do is go to your local Ren Faire to see grown men cavorting about in such outfits. You can then draw your own conclusions on whether you wish to adopt that look yourself.

Hmmm. Hmmm. Devogirl has a point...Ren Fest guys; 'what ho, milady!'. As for my calves...I was at this museum once, face to face with this 600 year old Peruvian mummy. My calves and her calves were remarkably similar in shape and thickness...except that mine aren't-you know-brown, wrinkled and leathery.

Tri-man....you do crack me up with your descriptions sometimes!!! Only you would be measuring yourself up to that 600 yr old mummy. As for my legs, i had good ones before wreck, and for some reason, they've stayed shapely...i've been lucky there, but i did atrophy significantly in chest and lower arms.

I personally will be attending the Wicked Faire at the Edison Convention Center in NJ the second weekend in Febuary, so I'll see my share of cods, but probably no wheelers.

Anyone here ever experience this kind of thing? transabled.org/thoughts/there-are-devs-and-then-there-are-devs.htm For some reason I could only picture MALE devos being like that, and assumed it was a guy. Could have been a girl for all I know. *shrug* Edited to add: Was that terribly sexist of me, or just representative of the majority of cases? WDYT?

Most of the disabled guys I met on the internet or in real life don't even know about devs... I think that's actually a good thing, considering that there are "devs" like that...

Claire, it's not sexist, there is a definite pattern. The old paraquad e-group was full of male devotees just like the one who wrote to you (although most of them seemed able to type). I got so sick of reading about guys who were stalking unsuspecting disabled women, taking pictures without their knowledge and posting them online, compiling lists of names and addresses, etc. When I called them on it, I got pages of impassioned defense about why it was ok--apparently they felt the strength of their devotee feelings justified harrassing and illegal behavior. Bullsh*t. I would also get really disgusting, disturbing emails from devo guys who thought I was a disabled woman. Part of the reason I asked Lee to start this site was to get away from the creepy devo guys. In spite of some occasional arguments, this level of discourse on this site is far higher. Unfortunately, though, the devo haters have some legit complaints. Anyway I doubt that this May person is really a devotee--more likely he/she is fishing to get us to reveal just how perverted we are.
