my happiness comes from spending time with gf, car shows, drag racing, music, movies, art, and a nice day rolling around the French Quarter in New Orleans

Happiness is funny thing…L'wren scott (Mick Jagger's longtime gf) recently killed herself, and I can think of a handful of rockstars with looks n money that obviously wasn't enough to keep them from committing suicide. Many of the war vets come back depressed…suicidal…not happy. I guess your happiness can change with your circumstances…but it's an attitude you carry around in yourself.
And I have no idea why we celebrate Cinco d' Mayo, except it's great for bars...

I live a few blocks from the Mission (Latino) district here in San Francisco and have assumed that it is a chance to show their pride in their heritage. I love that area but it is quickly being taken over by the young wealthy tech workers.

Sorry... it is an OT question: The "cinco de mayo" is about the Battle of Puebla? if it is so... why is it so celebrated in US? According to Wikipedia, the defeat of the French at the Battle of Pueblo prevented the French from using Mexico as a base while backing the Confederates during the US Civil War at a time when that kind of support might have made a difference in the outcome of the war. (Or something like that. Breaking blockades, blah, blah, blah.) I think most here just celebrate it as Margarita day. (Thinking that it's the Mexican Independence Day, because they don't cover it in school.) Thanks, Ini!!... and yes, I think it is a Margarita Day because Mexican independence was in September (if my memory doesn't fail me)... About that battle, I knew that story, the one you told me... but I was intrigue about why it is so celebrate in US. But... if a good bar tour, drinking margaritas is the result of this day... then, Happy 5 de mayo! jajajaj

I also think that happiness comes from within us. Like Tony said it's an attitude you carry arround in yourself. Like the glass of water which is half-full for one and half-empty for another one. In general I'm a happy person. I'm extremely happy when I'm skiing, when I'm together with my family and friends and when I can make my girl happy. ;-)

I agree with Pony & tom. I think happiness does come from within us. It's something that we create for ourselves. No one can make us happy, so much as they can amplify our happiness. Anyway, the things that make me happy are music, and the outdoors. If I'm having a bad day, all I need to do it hear some good music, and enjoy a nice day outside. Of course, there are many other things that can make me happy, but those are my guaranteed triggers for happiness.

i love how everyone has so many different things that make them happy yet there are still a few common threads that tie it all together.
for myself i believe i in seeking Joy rather than happiness. happiness is so temporary as where joy is long lasting. there are a few thinks i can think of that do bring that "happiness though.
when i am at the shooting range and ii get to shoot a new gun for the first time. is one of the best feelings ever. when i am cooking a new recipe and it smell just as good as it tastes. at the drag strip, the smell or burnt ruber and nitro methane fuel combined together. the sound and feel of a Top fuel dragster as it takes of from the starting line. driving with the windows down and music turned up singing as loud as you can to your favorite songs. the feeling of diagnosing and fixing a problem on a car or truck. or even just the solace of listening to music and getting into the zone while im working on a car up on my lift. (mostly suspension work) relaxing around a fire pit sharing stories with friends and drinkin beer. there may be more but for now these are the top things that make me "happy" hehe

We had my Mom over and made carne asada nachos and made margaritas. Going out to Mexican food on Cinco De Mayo is always super busy!

There's so many...
Seeing an animal experiencing joy, whether it is a dog that is having the time of it's life, or a bird enjoying a bath or a squirrel who has just found a hoard of nuts....I find their joy contagious. Deep, interesting, meaningful one on one conversations. Connecting with others. Laughter. Getting to a deep level in meditation. Having the piss taken out of me in such an accurate way that I have absolutely no recourse but to throw my hands up, laugh and accept "the awful truth" of the observation. Accepting others as they are. Feeling grateful.

You know I find all this talk about conscious happiness and joy really interesting eh... I make a very conscious effort to ensure my own happiness, now that I think about it. It probably depends on what makes you happy too, but I generally make sure I get plenty of sleep, eat really well, and get heaps of functional exercise. For me, everything else falls in to place much better after all of those 3 big things are taken care of. I do find routine quite relaxing in some ways too, so maybe that's part of it. But I find working at something every day, or over a period of months...that immense satisfaction is unbeatable! I'd forgotten about gratitude, too! For years now I've kept a little diary of all the good things that have happened to me...not religiously, but little comments, people I've met etc...reading that now still makes me really happy. But that happiness that just happens, I think maybe that's of the more joyous kind, like some of you have mentioned. And yes, I find nature is the best source of that. Or meeting someone very randomly who you feel like you've known for a million years. I'm pretty terrible at it, and haven't done it much but snowboarding...joy on a stick! Some pieces of art, too...not sure if anyone has been to one of her exhibitions, but Yayoi Kusuma....her stuff is so incredibly exhilarating! So many different kinds of happiness

Music Hunting for new music Looking at vinyl/buying vinyl When some big comic series is released in it entirety. i.e. The Doom Patrol Omnibus, yayyyyyyyy! collecting things. Reading a good book, watching a good show, movie or playing video game. Watching old wrestling moments. Live shows. When I really connect with someone When I'm able to make someone else happy, and or help them. To know that I better someone no matter how small the maybe. To see joy and wonder through someone elses eyes. Cuddles, closeness and all kinds a gushy crap. little things I can't even think of at the moment. For example. Along time ago someone made me toast. Up until that point, no one other then my mom or dad had made me anything so it was really special to me. hahaha toast...

It's hard to say what really makes me happy; I have suffered from depression for over 20 years. I guess a good amount of personal space makes me happy, but so does being connected to my community.
Good weather makes me happy. Good weather, to me, is a nice chill and a very soft breeze.
Music can be a huge moodchanger for me. I like old jazz (hard bop or avant garde), drone, and indie, all depending on my mood.

Very interesting responses. A sunny day and a four hour hand cycle ride with my friends. Right after I finish cleaning the my house. A BDSM play party with good friends. A good song on the radio

Going to cinco de mayo fest with niece…happy! Sorry... it is an OT question: The "cinco de mayo" is about the Battle of Puebla? if it is so... why is it so celebrated in US? This is what I gather-and I could VERY well be wrong-The reason that Cinco de Mayo is so celebrated here in the US is because of the happy and inescapable fact that the Latin culture has literally EXPLODED here in the last 20 years or so, and as such, those who celebrate are celebrating Mexico's first major victory as an independent nation... Of course, it doesn't hurt that liquor helps the celebration
