Those moments with friends where you can just escape int laughter, and forget all your troubles and the only challenge you have is to keep the laughs coming. Laughter is often the best healer, as cliched as it sounds.

She laughed often, and lived to be 100. I think she had it right!

Well, thinkinking about it, if we experience things we enjoy and benefit from more, the more 'encouraged' our body and mind may feel to carry on, it's almost like getting a snotty kid to eat his vegetables.

The whole 1st and 2nd series of Dark Angel, a family size bar of Cadbury's Dairy Milk (has to be straight from the fridge), a bottle of nice red wine, open fire, reclining chair, dressing gown, slippers and enough uninterrupted time to enjoy all of them to the max. Sigh. Chocolate really IS better than sex, obviously, as I have neglected to include a wheeler in the whole scenario...unless Jeeves the para butler is loitering in the kitchen waiting for me to ring my bell. Chocolate... All the pleasure of sex, none of awkward conversations

Honestly, I can't really say there are many things that inspire that level of happiness in me. The only two that immediately come to mind are rain and REALLY good music. I suppose I could go so far as to say there are a few people in my life that I could place into the same category, but the thing with people is that no matter how much I legitimately like them, they are still people. Rain and good music are a constant. People on the other hand are very inconsistent, and even if I really enjoy their company, I'm not always going to want it. I can't recall a time in my life where the same has been true for rain and good music though.

Concerts. There's always this point at a concert when I realize how everything is perfect at this very moment and that makes me ultra happy. At the same time it makes me sad, because it'll never be this great again. At that point I always realize that everything fades too fast. It's a strange feeling but it's probably the most honest kind of happiness and I often tear up a little at that point.
The ocean. I'm always happy at the water, it can also be a river or a lake, but to me the ocean is the most amazing thing there is as far as nature. Just today I was at the beach and it's been the most beautiful day in a while. There's this song that goes "en el mar la vida es mas sabrosa" (life is more delicious at the beach/in the ocean). I totally agree. I can spend hours just looking at or listening to the water and also in there, where everything seems more easy.
New York City. I don't know exactly what it is about this city. It's all of it, somehow. Even the chaos and the dirt. I love it more than any other city I've been to. The flair, the beautiful architecture, the people, the food, the smell, the fastness, the bigness, the lights, just every single thing about it.
My family. Visiting beautiful places. And last but not least, music.

And last but not least, music. As someone who has lived in NY for all of their life, I just recently discovered how amazing New York City is. This year is the first time I've actually lived in the city, and it's an entirely different feel than what I used to visit for the day once a year or so. It's an amazing place.

Hmmmm, I know I'm gonna manage to leave some out but here goes:
Music. A good concert with great friends is a magical thing, and every time I hear a song on the radio that I've heard performed live I smile at those memories.
The satisfaction of a job well done and a project accomplished successfully. Bonus happiness if the results are above and beyond what was expected.
When I'm with a group of good friends and we aren't really doing anything special, just talking, laughing, eating, drinking, watching a movie or listening to music....just to sit back and bask in the glow, listening as conversation about everything under the sun ebbs and flows, laughing until our sides and stomachs ache at the inside jokes we've collected over the years, knowing that my cooking has fed their bodies well and made them feel comfortable and warm inside.
Being able to make things better for someone else.
So many more, but I'd like to leave you with a thought, for now: people often use the words happiness and contentment interchangeably. If you think about it, happiness is very fleeting and in the moment, while contentment is more of a state of mind that comes from a lot of sources, our moments of happiness among them. Some folks spend their whole lives and a great deal of energy chasing happiness only to be disappointed when they feel as if they've never found it; but sit back and think and know that happiness is only one component of what we should really be chasing, and that is contentment.

You're right. Happiness is a warm gun so to speak, a shot's been fired, or something great has happened, you've reached your goal. But guns cool down and the buzz of happiness fades into the cold, leaving shells of bitterness, resentment and contempt.
I guess what helps is the warm thoughts of contentment.
For example, being able to count our blessings instead of, well in my case, feeling guilty whenever a burst of happiness comes through. A good thing to do is to salvage all the positive things you can from something that's otherwise negative. These could be lessons, something physical or a way of thinking. True happiness does exist, but we really do have to work for it.
Sorry, got caught in a ramble there.

True happiness does exist, but we really do have to work for it. Sorry, got caught in a ramble there. Gee that "ramble" thing never happens to me! Contentment is also a broader feeling and more of a constant. It doesn't rely solely on the highs that happiness brings, it's also made up of the simple, everyday things that we all experience. Happiness is almost like a drug in that as time goes on it takes more, bigger, faster, better, brighter to make it happen; it loses its potency. Contentment doesn't mean settling for less, it means remembering to find joy and happiness in both big and small things. It can be anything from the best concert, the most unique once in a lifetime experience or just spending time holding a baby that you helped bring into the world, inhaling her scent, kissing her, seeing her sweet smile and letting her fall asleep in your arms. Taking a place, like an apartment, and making it your own warm and welcoming sanctuary. Knowing that you've made a difference in someone's life, even if you think you haven't done anything really special. That's contentment right there.

Playing poker. Because of my disability there’s nothing really physically demanding I can do like football, gym stuff like that but when it comes to playing poker I’m equal to everyone else sitting at that table, in fact I might be the best there. The buzz I get when I’m sitting there and I’m playing against people I’ve never played against before think when they first see me I might not be able to play for shit. Then when I win a big pot and my heads down and I’m pulling those chips in I can see and sense they know I’m he real deal is unbelievable. The rush and the high I get I can’t explain.

I’m laughing and happy when I am around friends that joke and cut up with me. I also enjoy watching standup comedians and epic fail YouTube videos. I also enjoying telling and hearing jokes, I do not have the best jokes in the world. I am also happy when I am able to be a nerd and I watch Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, and Marvel Movies.
