It is such a liberating feeling! I don't think coming out ever gets old here. For some of us it is important to tell select people close to us and for others it's not a priority.
I feel I've grown as a woman and a dev by coming out, and you take the good with the bad.

I am very happy for you "coming out" but since your friends are gay, I would hope they would be somehow open minded as well... Only one friend I told was the same, she came out to me with being gay and I came out to her being attracted to guys in chairs but it was no big deal at all...we never really made a fuss about it...only difference is she threw her "old" life out the window and pursued her desires, I on the other hand didn't...:-( I think it also depends on the circumstances of our individual lives...me coming out to my friends would be totally different than someone else coming out to their friends...I have not come out to any other friends or family and I probably never will because they wouldn't understand but I am also 43, married to an able bodied man and have kids...totally different from a young single woman coming out, just as an example...

I spent the weekend with my sis recently and tried to broach the subject and saw her face all scrunch up like confusion and disgust combined. I backed off like a chicken. My youngest is pretty intuitive and has made comments and recently we have joked around about it. He's pretty accepting but as my kid(even if he's 25) I don't go into alot of detail. Have never brought up with my friends yet. Congrats for you. Glad it went so well.

Yes! That feeling of liberation is one of the greatest feelings, and I hope that every dev gets the chance to experience it with someone they trust. Congratulations! :]

Thats great Lucy. I have often felt that the process of coming out as a dev is similar to coming out as gay. Its great your friends saw the similarities as well and were so understanding.

congrats, lucy. i'm glad you had such a positive experience with your first "reveal". i've had mixed reactions from friends i've told about being a dev. i've mostly received positive/supportive (even if surprised and confused) reactions, but there have been a couple that weren't so positive. and i was quite surprised by who reacted negatively. it felt hurtful initially but i still didn't regret telling them in the end, which kind of surprised me. instead of feeling exposed and vulnerable and judged myself, i have primarily felt disappointment towards them at their closed-mindedness and discomfort. and i haven't let their discomfort around the subject limit my expression of my devness in casual conversation whenever it's appropriate. as we are close friends i really see it as their problem to deal with now. lol fortunately i had several very positive reactions before i hit on a negative one. to tell or not is a personal choice but the feeling of a non-dev friend being accepting of your devness is a pretty incredible feeling. i'm glad you got to experience that.

I was wondering if anyone regrets coming out to people. I suppose in the great scheme of things the more people that admit openly to this attraction the more we all will realise that it isn't anything to be ashamed about or be hidden. Well done Lucy and great that you have great friends.
