That's so true about dogs. Most are completely oblivious to the chair, but other do not like it at all....

I have an 8 year old black lab who is as just as comfortable with people in chairs (obviously). And I find other dogs are mostly the same.
True Triassic some are "what the hell is that" but are like that with bicycles as well.

Same here with that experience with dogs, though perhaps dogs are even coming to accept wheelers more...because I've noticed less and less seem to go psychotic...it is usually the smaller dogs that have a problem with me. I actually know someone who is blind and has a seeing-dog for them, and their dog seems to have a 'thing' for my chair.

I don't know how other wheelers feel about the source of the touching, but I don't give it a whole lot of thought. I realize much of it probably comes from questionable feelings such as pity, but most of these folks are just nice people. The apparent novelty of the touchable wheeler makes a little more sense to me now that Tony posted those statistics, since there are a lot fewer of us than I thought.

something is happening that has me confused...the nurse that has been home visiting me through all this year of unpleasantness (they assigned me a different nurse this time) has been getting much more "touchy-feely....we became tight friends over time...she had me over for t-giving w/ her family (met her husband)...when i turned myself in to the hospital jan. 7th she showed up...pushed me from admissions to my room,,,stayed thru thr admissions process, providing the nurse w/ info about me & helping get me settled...she visited me yesterday and the huggun was majorly tight and cheeck kissing hard and repetitive....this has me all mixed up as to how she has come to feel about me...im was having enuff trouble w/ 3 attached women b4 my illness,,,andd my creed has always been to be hands off attached women...i'm just afraid she is looking for something im afraid to allow...opinions?

It will be frustrating, but under those circumstances, I'd just play it cool and proceed with caution, as you have been doing.

Mr. Popularity! Dude, if you're still having problems with three other women at the same time, you've already got more than your quota of trouble.

Wow, yes, we have a ladies man, apparently.
It sounds like you have a long history of working together, so perhaps she is just being nice in reflection of that...I tend to look at thing and play them down though...I think matisse manks sense, play it cool, if there's something you don't like, you've got to voice that concern.

Well, it sounds like you've met yerself a married dev nurse. Are YOU interested ole' bear? Are you comfortable, attracted, etc? Talk and find out a bit more 'bout her. Her marriage. Is she happy or not. If things do proceed, however, I would talk to her about having her moved off your case because it's just not the prof. thing to do and once you are not her "patient", then you are free to get involved, or not.

I've got a few opions on the 'touchy/feely' thang, but first, i tip my hat to the quad-pimp (Jeffers). hehe I think Matisse's observation is correct, there isn't many of us out here, and we sometimes strike a dramatic NERVE in people. It can be a deep feeling of guilt, compassion, embarrassment, confusion, even attraction in a weird way. It's also logistics, girls touch my shoulders a lot coz their hands are close to them when they are standing, so it's easy to reach out and touch.
I remember being in the hospital years ago (one of the few times since getting hurt) with Pneumonia , and i was sitting up in bed sleeping in the morning. I woke up with this nurse chick touching my lip with her fingertip, very softly. I kinda smiled when i opened my eyes, and she was kinda embarrassed, but started acting professional. I never saw her again, but that touch stuck with me as that nerve that provoked some emotion in her, i think.
