Hey, thanks, that's helpful about the shuttle! Looooooove the shot of the aircraft carrier in the background across the harbor...too cool. My wheeler friend's not a guy, she's a girl, and just a friend. I agree, La Jolla is rather boring, but I'm just going there to go to the UCSD Medical Center and my friend is coming along for moral support (it's an experimental treatment for BIID) and because she's never been to San Diego. We probably will go down to the Marina area the next day. I love San Diego...truly one of America's finest cities. Sea World seems like a good place to go too, the emphasis on shows over rides strikes me as ideal for a wheeler who can't transfer into rides. Granted, I haven't been everywhere in the city, but what I have seen seems infinitely more accessible than where I live. Last time I was there, we went to a park on Mission Bay, and they had all this playground equipment that was adapted for wheelchairs. Too cool.

When I was around in San Diego, I just used the buses, which worked great for me at least...as long as you don't have too wide of a wheelchair, the lifts should be able to take your chair(s) and they have docks for people with wheelchairs to strap in...
I've actually been to the naval base there, and on that very carrier you see. Have a relative in the USN over there, so I got to see all of the cool stuff.
The shops are quite excellent over there...do make sure you bring some 'fun' money, because you'll most likely be tempted to buy something.
