Just finished this book. It was really good. The hero has MS. My Life in Shambles: A Standalone Romance Karina Halle If you are going to read it, grab some tissue, you might need it. 😎 Read this last night, enjoyed it but i didnt find it very devvy. The parts where it could have been devvy werent very well explored as the main story was the romance.

I have just finished yet another historical romance with a blind hero, Venice in the Moonlight by Elizabeth McKenna. The setting of 18th century Venice during Carnival is unusual and pretty well done. The heroine is recently widowed, and crosses paths with a wealthy rake named Nico who is visually impaired due to cataracts, although not completely blind. Overall it was only ok, bonus points for not falling into most of the blind guy romance stereotypes, but the quality of the writing is mediocre.
But the ending really bothered me a lot. SPOILERS, I guess, although this is the kind of thing I want to know in advance before reading. So early on, Nico hears of a doctor who can operate on cataracts. Ok, this is somewhat historically accurate (actually the novel Iron Men has a much better and more accurate description of cataract surgery in the 18th century). Once that detail came up, I just knew that the happy ending would be contingent on Nico being able to see again. But actually it ends with him visiting the doctor who tells him to take some time to think about the risks before doing the surgery (totally a modern attitude, that also bugged me). So it ends with the promise of him regaining his sight at some point in the future. It feels to me like an earlier draft of the novel ended with a cliched miracle cure, and someone told the author how demeaning and ableist that tired old trope is, so she revised it. But I hate it even more that she tries to have it both ways--the heroine can love him as a blind man but don't worry, the miracle cure is still coming. Ugh!

I’ve just finished Hold On Tight by Serena Bell. It’s a storyline that has been done many times over (hot guy returns from war minus a leg (AK) doesn’t want to go on but (re)meets a girl that accepts him as he is and makes life worth living again) but despite this I found it to be well written with a reasonably accurate portrayal of amputees.
I also found it descriptive in all the right places and pretty devy. It’s a very personal thing but, for me, it was just the right amount of struggle, realism and romance. Fairly expensive mind you and not on Kindle Unlimited at the moment. It’s the first of a four part series but am yet to read the others.

I’d had it on my wish list for a little while waiting for the price to come down but then ran out of books on holiday so just went for it and really glad I did. It’s good!

I'm reading a book on my Kindle called, I think, Crashed. I thought it would be about a guy who crashed and would then be disabled, but it's not. The main character did crash his race car, but he quickly recuperated and was back to normal physically. His problems are emotional. He has trouble with the relationship with his girlfriend because he was abused as a child and has all kinds of issues, including not wanting kids. Does anyone know this book? Sorry if it was discussed previously and missed it. It's not too devy.

Someone else not too long ago mentioned Crashed, but a different one. I actually plowed through that entire book while on my bike for 4 hours today (inside on a trainer). It was soooo good I loved it so much. Maybe go find the one by Julie Kriss.
Now I’m on the hunt for another one. Didn’t mean to read that one so quick :/

I just picked up a series of detective novels called The Neve and Egan Cases by Cristelle Comby. The unlikely private eye duo are a young university student (the first person narrator) named Alexandra and her blind history professor, 40ish Ashford Egan. I got the 4 volume complete set although so far I've only read the first one. It's pretty good, although Egan is a stereotypical bitter, angry blind guy. It's rather refreshing to for once read about a blind guy who doesn't have supernatural powers, although the book really plays up his vulnerability and self-pity to an almost disturbing degree. The way they solve the murder mystery in the first book kind of strains belief, but it was nice to read a genre other than romance for a change. And even though Egan is in some ways a frustrating character, the book talks about his blindness a LOT so there are plenty of devvy details.

Just finished Dangerous to know and Love and it was so good. It is my second time reading it, so I decided to share it. The Hero is deaf.

Kit Smart has a couple more books out - you may already realise this but I didn’t! Haha. I really enjoyed High Horse Bastard and just read Love Me Better. Trying to resist downloading Build a Baehr as I need to get actual things done today 😂
