One of my very favorite historicals is Sweet Disorder, by Rose Lerner. Rose Lerner is a younger and somewhat modern writer in style, but she researches very well and creates great characters, so her work is refreshing.
The setup is unique - she is a widow struggling to get by who is being courted by political representatives bc she controls her late husband’s vote (even though she could never vote herself, oh no no no). The H (has a heavy limp and pain) is a rep for his golden-boy brother, but he really doesn’t have the heart for it. They’re just two people stuck in situations that tire them out physically and emotionally.
There’s also a disabled side character: a wealthy young woman who can’t use her legs and is pushed around in a chair. It’s interesting to see how she gets treated in comparison. (She’s about as active as she can be, and is quite an enjoyable addition.)
The whole thing is just yummy. Much more intimate than Julia Quinn’s sort of whirlwind style.

Swimming to the Surface, from the blog. The author removed it after another author plagiarized it and then acted like it was supposed to be an homage 🙄 Thank you! That was the one. And I now even remember the situation with the plagiarism. Anyhow, it was a great story, I’m sorry it took such a bad turn…

Does anyone have any new contemporary rom com books they’d recommend with a male PWD main character? I’ve been very into BK Borison/Ali Hazelwood/Christina Lauren stuff this year. I very much am craving that vibe except with a PWD main character versus all these AB dudes. I’ve read (and in many cases, re-read) all of Annabelle’s books and, of course, love those too.
I’m in the midst of a very high dev high, and woah, it’s hitting me hard! I’m a mom of a toddler now, so it’s been so much harder to find ample time to write my own fiction to tide myself over.

I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned this yet, but I recently heard about Out on a Limb: A Novel by Hannah Bonam-Young. The main character has a limb difference and the love interest had part of his leg amputated. I haven't read it yet, but it sounds promising!
And wow, Swimming to the Surface is a blast from the past. I totally remember reading that a long time ago.

There is a wonderful Brazilian book called "Feliz Ano Velho" by Marcelo Rubens Paiva. It is the true story of how the author, who is an important journalist, went through the process when he suffered a diving accident and became quadriplegic. It is my favorite book in the world, and not only because of the main character's disability, but because it is a beautiful story and, above all, very funny.
