it's weird...the older i get(almost 45) the less music interests me. i used to be HEAVY, heavy into reggae and dub when i was in my 20's...and still *like* stuff like that-bassy and trancy and trippy; but i'd never voluntarily, on my own listen to any music now, really. honestly, i prefer silence. i don't think i even own any music now, just some old cassettes. deep quiet is under-rated. Well, my grandfather, father and now me were/are musicians, so I'm very biased, maybe naive, but I believe music has this incredible power of bringing people together. I, personally, think the rock/pop movement in the 50s, 60s helped usher in the civil rights era. But beyond all that stuff, I just love the way it makes me feel. I download TOO much from iTunes coz I'm like a kid in a candy store (at times). The latest thing I downed was Sting's first solo LP that REALLY had giant impact on me in the 80s. As a singer that plays out sometimes, playing somebody else's great song gets me high if the conditions are right - it can be torture if they're not! Nothing wrong with 'silence', as Triman said, and I admit, as I get older I don't 'live' the music quite the way I did as a young rebel. I find myself reliving those times, but no bringing them back...those musical times are long in the past!!

there's no doubt music brings back memories powerfully. that's what youtube is great for...even tho i'm not so wild about music any more, it is fun to look up obscure stuff there. and i often find what i'm looking for, too.
that's new. the ability to find clips quickly via youtube is only a couple years old, really. if that.

DMB, Foo Fighters, Counting Crows, Beck, Natalie Merchant ... the list goes on but my goddess is Julia Fordham This list deserves much praise. I've been on a Natalie Merchant kick lately. I just repurchased Ophelia after having lost it years ago. I saw Foo Fighters live a few months ago. Totally amazing. And Beck... Que onda, guedo? Thank you O musically-inclined one! The others on my list are not that deserving of your praise perhaps that's why I omitted them lol

just what is 'math rock'? i've heard the term, but never gotten a definition.
as for radiohead, i'll never understand their popularity. that guy's whiny, weepy voice drives me nuts...

Sorry, I miss the charm on the Foos, but just downloaded a great album, "The Sun and the Earth", from Stevie Salas - one hot funkyass guitarist that will knock your pretty socks off. BTW, Dollywood turned me on to Wolfmother...I love you, Dolly! www.steviesalas.com/

Zoltan... yeah dude can't wait. I've seen them the last two times they were in town. Fucking out of this world. I liked their last show cause it was in a smaller venue but this time around they're playing at the Molson Amphitheatre which is a big outdoor venue. It's all good though, I probably won't even know where I am lol
