I heard recently though on the eurostar, that wheelchair users have now got to have a carer with them to travel on it That cannot be true! With the prices they have they could actually create a service of carers - hostesses, if you prefer - to accompany wc users... So I guess it has to be me who will need to travel to meet you. We'll see...

thats true I heard recently though on the eurostar, that wheelchair users have now got to have a carer with them to travel on it That seems to me as if it would contravene the UK's DDA, would it not?

what a nice thought judit Yes it would seem it does contravene the uks dda , but it is also partly owned by france and i dont know what their laws are i am sure various action groups will be up in arms about it! I only heard about it chating to a couple of married friends of mine who are both in wheelchairs

<grin> I miss my time in the disability rights movement in the US... geeesh, to think I got myself arrested 27 times for civil disobedience at actions Fun... Really powerful to be surrounded by 400 or so other folks in chairs, blind, deaf, and with various disabilities.

Why did you stop doing it?

Because I moved to a country that is nowhere near as big as the US, and where the disability community tends to be a bit meek and "sits there and takes it". There are advocates here, don't get me wrong, but the disability community is not quite ready to picket and make a fuss.
