I think I lost my Mojo to write Ever since finishing up "New Beginnings" on the Blog I haven't been able to create anything really. I have a bunch of devotee romance stories started from over the years and I reviewed a lot of them and none of them "pull" me in like my previous stories have. Instead because of some interactions I have been inspired more to create some fetish related shorts but don't know if it's a good thing to post on the Blog, it's sex and fetish stuff (not really devotee stuff). Anyhow, I was sitting here today and once again opened my computer and literally just stared at my saved documents waiting for any story to call my name and say "Finish me, finish me" I don't know why there is such a blockage. Lots of stuff has happened in my personal life this year so maybe that's it. Some health issues as well, I don't know. But I miss writing and letting it flow out of me with ideas and scenes. I hope it will come back to me, I haven't experienced this in years. Thanks for reading. Hugs

What if you drink a little booze or smoke some weed? Some known writers do that to find inspiration...

Maybe you first have to write about these (unfortunate) things that happened to you? Not in a story, just to yourself?

Sometimes the best way to do it is just to push through. You can fix crap, but you can't fix a blank page. Also I notice the more I read the more I become inspired to write. It helps me find my voice. Hoping you find your voice Dani

Sorry to hear the struggle, Dani! I often struggle with my motivation to write. Since I had my daughter in August, I haven’t written a single creative thing, but I’m hoping to be more in the new year.
When I struggle and actually carve time out to write, I force myself to do writing sprints. I’m a competitive person, especially against myself, so it works well! I set the timer for three minutes, log my starting word count, then write non stop for those three minutes. At the end, I compare the word count and see how much I’ve written in just three minutes, then usually scoff and swear I can do better the next time. I can usually average about 120-140 words, and that is with me only putting in a few minutes. It may not be beautiful writing, but that is what editing is for and I find it much easier to edit what is there than to stare at a blank page.
When I was getting my MFA, word sprints were the only thing that got me to finish my thesis project. I’d also suggest using the website writeordie.com. I find negative reinforcement works for me... definitely not for everyone, but maybe some of these strategies will get that muse speaking to you again! Good luck. :-)

I find rereading my stories can help. If not, usually that means I'm stuck on something, so it helps to identify exactly what I'm stuck on and figure out an answer to it.

I definitely think that negative things happening in you real life affect your urge to write. I have been in a slump for a while because of stuff I've been going through and also when I get into my writing I get a bit obsessional and intense and my mind doesn't switch off. It can be a bit scary and I can annoy the hell out of myself. I was the most motivated and productive when we did a writing group on here a few years ago but it fizzled out and some egos are louder than others. I am determined to get a book out this year. I agree that reading does get my juices flowing and wakes up my mental thesaurus (especially when I read classics). I have learnt not to fight a slump and to wait it out but be productive while I wait eg i will do a bit of research on a subject I want to write about or do a story board or just a general muck around like casting the characters with actors or models, or creating the houses and locations stories will be set in.
I hope your mojo returns soon.

If you can keep your head when all others are losing there’s.....
I have been writing a novel now for five months using my mouthstick stick typing one letter at a time. I am close to writing 71,000 words, nearly tapping 360,000 characters, I am about 20,000 words short of the first draft. I have done this in bed on my side being turned every four hours using an iPad. It is hard going but do you not give up it is worth it in the end. I have finally got one pressure sore fixed it took 10 years, and I am getting up now for three hours a day. I spoke to a friend of mine Ruth Madison and she told me it’took her ten years to write her first book. I hope to get mine published one day, I hope to be all done with my manuscript by June. I wish you well, Pete

Does voice software such as Dragon not work for you, Pete? What is the genre of your novel? Good to hear you are up and about a bit x

The voice on the iPad is hard to difficult with my Birmingham accent, plus more novel has lots of quotation, ““? Et cetera et cetera. It takes more editing. Using the mouthstick version has strengthened my neck to the points that’s I don’t need to wear my collar anymore. When I am up for four - five hours I’m going to get a mouth controlled chair. I’ve got a Regimental reunion to go to in June in Blackpool. My novel in comedy/ romance, I’ll get there, try to tap 1000 words a day,
Pete

Your using the mouthstick makes perfect sense to me now. Good luck with getting the novel published x

britishtetra it's nice to hear from you and sounds like things are slowly looking better for you. I praise you for keeping up with the writing despite the pace you have to go by. Takes a lot of patience and motivation but it's great you are doing it. I wish you lots of strength and motivation to keep going in this new year.
