As a gay guy myself I must admit I hate the terms 'boy' and 'lad'. A little too stereotype maybe.
However, boys, girls, lads, dames, whatever, welcome to them all I say.

As a gay man i don't mind the term boy but the one i really hate that you see in a lot of gay sites is "boi"The gay community seems to have adopted that term.

I am a Str8 Boi. Str8 but not narrow-minded.  Doesn't "Boy" in a gay context have less to do about age and more to do with a body type and personal style? I mean wouldnt any fairly slim, not real masculine, under 35, fairly good looking, gay guy qualify as a Boy? As opposed to a Bear or a muscular gym rat... |

I'd say that just about sums up "Boy" in a gay context.You would never hear of a Bear type being called boy.Bears "woof' at each other

as you can see in the first message, i'm Spanish, and my English is not very good. I said boy, and maybe i must say guy or something like that.
There is not an especial meaning in the word boy, it's only a bad use of the language. I'm a 26 y.o man.

Hi Spanishdev, welcome! You are right on that point regarding the language differences - or rather cultural differences. I know that Spanish people like to use niño/niña. A Hungarian girl found it strange at first that her 30 something boss called the younger colleagues mi niño/mi niña. In my language (Hungarian) boy is just a friendlier and less reserved way to say young man, and it usually depends on the looks and not the age. If someone wants to make the diffrence he refers to gays as kittyboy (because men use to call their women kitty) or to a couple as boycouple or boylovers. In the French of France both garçon or jeune homme are used more or less equally for a young man, but for example in the Vallon part of Belgium if you don't call a 60 year old man/woman gamin/gamine (little boy/little girl) he/she will presume that either you are stranger and didn't learn the habits yet or that you are having some problems with him, you are angry or just plaine rude. And of course that's a call for some beers. |
