Dieting can be one of the hardest things for quads and paras. I wanted to share my experience recently. I started back in April. The first picture was 2 weeks in. The second was today. I Could tell I was over weight but not nearly as much as I was. I do a lot of different physical therapies that keep me in shape but I wanted to see how fit I could get if I started eating better and lost some weight. So I started doing a lot of stuff. I wanted a meal replacement shake in the morning just because it’s so much easier and I can get going with my day faster. So I tried everything! Isagenix, shakeology, idealshake, all that stuff. Tried it for a month even if I didn’t like it. Until I tried the one I do now, nature’s bounty protein and vitamin. That in the morning. Salad or some sort of vegetarian Mediterranean food or simple sushi for lunch, and then whatever the hell I want for dinner. It ended up incorporating a lot of different things. I’m like 60-70% vegan. I eat dinner at 5 or 6 because I’m hungry and then don’t do anything until my shake again at 9am so intermittent fasting. Because I’m doing so little for breakfast and lunch my calories are way low. I end up not eating much dairy at all. It’s all good. It was tough in the beginning but it just became normal at some point..

Great information and impressive results thefittestquad. It's an important aspect of a SCI lifestyle that a lot of us neglect. I'm glad it's working for you. I will have to check out nature's bounty.

Great job! I think the key is finding what works for you long term. Very few people can deprive themselves for a sustained amount of time. I started Weight Watchers a little less than a month ago and so far am happy with my progress and think its a really great program.

That’s great commitment, I know how difficult it is to lose weight after SCI. Well done and good advice!

You can PM me if you like, I would like to lose some weight of my quad belly also, Many thanks, Pete Hey Pete! So yeah I get up in my chair at 9 so by 915 I have a shake which I put the mixture, half a frozen banana and a cup of almond milk but you can flavor it however you want. I’m pretty simple. I do lunch at 11:30 or 12 which I found a really good salad I like because I’m not a big fan of leafy salads although I was doing them for months before I found this recipe. It’s got corn, edamame, black beans, chick peas, roasted peppers and a bunch of seasoning www.allrecipes.com/recipe/228261/edamame-bean-salad/And then dinner I do around 5 or 6 and literally do whatever the fuck I want. Whether it’s fried chicken, fish, carry out, frozen pot pies, whatever. The big part is just no snacking in between or after dinner. Satisfy your craving with dinner seems to work for me bowel has been amazing, no issues. I do my bowel program at night at 2am

Welcome thefittestquad I read some of the posts and the one big main thing to remember about being a quad or para or anyone really is to make sure your protien levels stay up because without protein levels right you will loose muscle and that means breakdowns which you know what that means the dreaded hospital jail time . I congratulate you on your losing weight but it is worth talking to your dr about a special nutritionist because of paralysis causes all kind of wacky shit to happen .
