Glad I made someone put a smiley on there post, thanks Charlene.
I was first fitted for a left leg cosmetic caliper last October/November and promptly broke it in total I think 5 times in 2 months !!!!.... Since then I complained and my ortho measured me for the more traditional style that fits into sockets in your shoes. I needed square sockets as I suffer foot drop so this keeps your foot from flexing up or down. I was a bit put off at first as the caliper looked horrible and I really tried hard to hide the metal work that protruded out of my jeans.....I did get on better with this type and have since been fitted for a right leg caliper which is exactly the same but with round sockets as I have a bit of ankle flex in my right leg still. I am still learning as I have had hardly any chance to practice with them while in hospital. I have had a pair of Nike trainers adapted with sockets and also a pair of rugged style boots but was told I was only allowed 2 pairs of shoes a year to be adapted !!!!....this is crazy as I have more shoes than a woman and I am unable to wear any of them...!!!!!.....I will have to pay over £60.00 to have any more shoes adapted.....what I would like to know is if any caliper wearing guys here in the U.K can recommend what type of boots or shoes are the best to adapt as I do not want to wear clunky style boots or trainers all the time but would hate to have to pay for a pair to be adapted only to find they are not suitable. Also are there any other companies apart from Peacocks or Bolton brothers who will adapt footwear in the U.K?? I will post some pictures if anyone is interested of the calipers, I think they look a bit ugly but maybe you devs will think differently. Thanks for the welcome back and hope this all makes sense.... Cheers Stu

Welcome back Stu, missed you and thought we scared you off. Glad to hear you are getting things together. We had another member on this site who was a low level para and used calipers and had gotten to be really good with them. He basically tossed the wheelchair, but he's since run off with a buxom Swede to live in her country (he was from the US). He'd probably be the ideal person to discuss those issues with.
However, there is a site that does exist, if you Google it. It is called "The Manitoba leg-bracers association" or something similar. I once linked to it from another site. They are a bunch of guys who use braces for SCI, MS etc. and they offer support and assistance with your kind of questions to others. They are not a devotee site. I think they are based out of Canada, but I believe they have members from all over the world. See if you can find the site. If I come across it, I will PM it to you, but it's been a long time since I saw it. Hopefully it still exists.

This guy bitches because National Health(or whatever it's called) will only adapt 2 pairs per year...
Yeaah, Michael Moore...they're real happy over there with their health care...real grateful and satisfied.

Michael Moore is the left-wing counterpart of Ann Coulter; a really unpleasant megalomaniac who makes highly dubious 'documentary' films.

Ann Coulter is an idiot regardless of political opinion

I don't think that's an exact correlation...Mr. Moore isn't strangely attractive like Ms. Coulter is (even hardcore liberals will admit this). I found Mr. Moore to be 'pleasant' though, especially in comparison to Ms. Coulter (I have seen and met both at speeches).

OK, yeah...A.C. is probably worse than M.M. She seems like she might actually be mentally unhinged or something...
She WAS attractive in her younger days, but she's just waaay too skinny. If she gained 20 pounds or so, she'd look hot.
I've always found it kind of disturbing to be sexually attracted to someone I DON'T like, DON'T respect, etc...

Ann Coulter destroys her hot looks when she opens her venomous mouth!! She's hard, jaded, makes fun of people (democrats, or anybody that disagrees), dispassionate, (((COLD)))....Although I've tried, I can't find anything sexy about her, except when she runs her fingers through her hair as she's attacking a liberal. I can't help it, I've always loved when girls play with their hair.

Ok, seems you people from over the pond do not actually understand what a mess the British NHS is in. I have worked all my life since leaving shool and have given the NHS part of my wage packet every weekfor the last 25 years, THATS EVERY WEEK, NOT MONTH OR YEAR. So when it is time for that MRI scan you badly need because you are in agony, you are told the waiting time is around 1 year depending on where you live in the U.K. Ok, lets go private and have the MRI scan done at a cost of 400.00 British pounds, about $700.00. So what was the point of paying every week for health care when you have to pay again when you actually need treatment ?. I had to wait nearly a year just to get to see someone who could help me get a wheelchair that did not weigh as much as a small car !!!!.....so please, I am not bitching, just asking for advice, and yes there are people a lot worse off than me and YOU . There, all better Stu

Right Stu,
You sort of make my point right there...Over here, leftists are singing the praises of the Brit system, like it's paradise where everyone gets treated ably and promptly by smiling MDs with the best of equipment, all for FREE; unlike the horrible, benighted nasty US system. We don't hear things like what you just wrote.
