Hey, I'm back! I joined PD a year or two ago, but since deleted that account. Having done a lot of reading on the disability experience in recent months, I was inspired to come back and contribute more actively to the forum. Just to re-introduce myself, I'm a 26-year-old guy with muscular dystrophy from Scotland. I’m an easy-going and friendly guy with a dry sense of humour. I’m on the extroverted side of the spectrum, but subtle and content with listening. I’m left-wing and an atheist, but open-minded and tolerant of views counter to my own. I’m interested in reading, writing, travelling, exploring art galleries, museums and historical sites, and good conversation over coffee. I have a wide-ranging taste in film, mainly in the thriller, drama and documentary genres, and in terms of music, I like rock, blues and alternative. Oh, and I have a computer science degree, but thinking of going in a different direction with my life at the moment.

Hello! Welcome! Read anything good lately? Thanks. I've put together a reading list all about disability rights and related subjects that I plan to finish by the New Year. I've read the first three, and just started the fourth of the following: 1. No Pity: People with Disabilities
1. No Pity: People With Disabilities Forging a New Civil Rights Movement
2. The Ragged Edge: The Disability Experience from the Pages of the First Fifteen Years of The Disability Rag
3. Why I Burned My Book and Other Essays on Disability
4. Crippled: Austerity and The Demonisation of Disabled People
5. Nothing About Us Without Us: Disability Oppression and Empowerment
6. Disability: The Basics
7. A Very Capitalist Condition: A History and Politics of Disability
8. In Sickness and in Health: Love, Disability, and a Quest to Understand the Perils and Pleasures of Interabled Romance
In terms of fiction, I'm reading Night Boat To Tangier on and off. I'm not sure about the narration but I like the dialogue.

Welcome! May I ask if reading on disability forums made you decide to come back to PD, or I guess was there anything that triggered it?

Welcome! May I ask if reading on disability forums made you decide to come back to PD, or I guess was there anything that triggered it? As well as making my way through the reading list about disability rights and the disability experience, I've been regularly browsing disability-related subs on Reddit. I'm trying to immerse myself in as much material on the subject as I possibly can and thinking about getting involved in campaigning/activism/writing and stuff. PD will be one of many sources of information/discussion. Is there any disability forums you can recommend? What's triggered all this was a sense of having had enough of the prejudice, stigma and taboo surrounding disability and I want to do something good with that energy. But, yeah, it wasn't a single incident or anything, just a cumulative frustration that's being released. Thanks for the welcome btw.

Welcome (back)! Is it too much if I ask why you deleted your account before? Please don't get me wrong, I am not judging, or something, I was absent for year and half myself, but I never deleted it, just in case ... ☺️ As we say in my country "it doesn't ask for bread or water". ☺️ So, I am generally curious what can be the motive for people deleting.
Btw, I think it's great lot of young people are (re)joining lately, maybe you "kids" will figure things out quicker than we! LOL 😂
