Devvy Fanfiction

A comment on another thread got me thinking about devvy fanfiction and I thought we could maybe start a running thread with links and info so we can dig into devvy stuff across non-dev fandoms. I know stuff has been mentioned in passing in other threads, but I'd love to have a dedicated thread with your faves.

Before I even knew what a Dev was, I was constantly searching for "wheelchair" and "injured" Harry Potter fanfiction.

My favorite of all time is "Finding Himself" by Minisinoo from the Harry Potter fandom. Follows Cedric Diggory who is injured at the end of book 4 instead of killed. Gets very devvy throughout for folks who like wheelchairs and crutches/braces.

That’s just a few, there are so many more. AO3 makes it super easy to search for a specific disability and fandom. There are a ton of fanfics with disabled characters although I feel like most of the authors are not devs, and their knowledge of disability varies wildly. Looking forward to hearing more recommendations!

In the interest of completeness, here are some recommendations of Daredevil and Hawkeye fanfic I made before in a different thread .

It's even harder to find good Hawkeye stories because almost everything tagged "Deaf Clint Barton" is actually about Bucky, and if Clint is in it at all there's like one mention of him having a hearing aid in a 65,000 word story.

There are a ton of stories about Netflix DD meeting the movies Avengers but they don't know he's blind. Here are some of the best ones.

The Avengers think DD is illiterate and want to help. The author said she was frustrated with so many stories where he is forced to reveal his identity due to an injury, and she wanted to give him more agency in the reveal. It's a good point, I agree!

Clint listens to loud music, Kate Bishop learns ASL. I love this one so much. It really captures the elliptical humor of the comics. I want to live in this fic forever. I wish it was more than just one chapter.

Here is another Steve/Bucky story, this time Steve is the one who is deafblind, in an AU without superpowers. The author really did a lot of research.

Haha yes queenkala thank you! It was your recommendation that led me to it. It is super devvy and I read the whole thing too although i admit I kind of burned out on it after a while. I liked how much effort the author put in to researching adaptive technology but IMHO it wasn't very faithful to the characters. They kind of acted like middle aged women which is a pet peeve of mine in m-m romance.

So what are your other fanfic recommendations? I'm eager to hear more from others.

Man oh man, this is super good. Quite devy and loved Harry Potter. I’ve read most of Devo girls stories and they are great too. My fav is about Dark Angel. Thanks for the recommendations.

Wow, I can't believe I having read Finding Himself before now. Halfway through; it is so good!

There are such talented writers out there. Honestly, fanfiction is my guilty pleasure...heehee.
