In The End
In the end, all we have is what people think of us. Time erodes the physical, and all of our material items are only temporary. And let’s face it; our sleek cars, faster computers and dinners at nice restaurants really only serve to pacify ourselves. It’s what people think of us that endures beyond anything we accomplish in life.
These days I hear many people say, ‘I don’t care what anybody thinks,’ and I do believe strongly in being an individual, even if it means breaking rank. Nevertheless, we must not forget the power of our reputation. In a more rural society, people had to be accountable in a more significant way for their behavior…there was a price to be paid when people got your number! We live in a more transit world today; people are spread out throughout the World. Some areas are so populated it diminishes the accountability one feels, and the responsibility to treat each other fairly, and with compassion. Our American society has changed so dramatically in 100 years that it has managed to steal much of our culture, our spirit, our sense of humanity and our care of what people really think of us. We started the 20th century giving much to the World via culture and spirit, American ingenuity was admired, respected and emulated. We inspired the World with our form of government that only loosely controlled its people. America’s products were superior and offered comfort to people’s lives, along with opening the doors of imagination, even playfulness. We showed the World that, with incentives, people would behave in good manner with each other, and the individual reputation was the centerpiece on the table.
I’m sad to say that money has somehow undermined the foundation we once had to stand on. It has become increasingly driven a wedge between those that have money, and those that don’t – and this has also happened on a World scale, not only in America. However, that’s because the World has been caught up in America’s impressive prosperity. Money has become our God. Even the churches themselves can’t get enough. And around the World we are not viewed so favorably anymore. Our government has spent more time in trying to change people of the World, than trying to win their hearts. And so, the backlash has begun!
Money has no heart, and doesn’t care about reputation. Money scolds those who don’t have it, hurts children of the poor and whips the back of those with mental/physical problems.
The rulers of money have become corporations, and corporations have become our government. There was a time when the government was made-up by the people, and corporate power was feared and controlled. Rightly so, because as we're finding out, those who can take from the people will never stop taking; any possible way to rake in more money is what they will do, whether it’s legal, or illegal, or somewhere in the gray area which is even better. That is where the politicians become another branch of the corporation, designing laws to make it easier for them to operate in the gray. Corporations have turned the individuals against each other for their own self-interest of controlling employees and consumers. The financial pressure is increasing constantly on the people, forcing us into slavery for the job. In the process we’re losing the American spirit and culture that was so revered by the World at one time. We are more and more isolated in this World of mostly poor countries, who we bribe to cooperate with us. America’s image has been tarnished like a trophy that has not received care. Even our own citizens are disillusioned, and confused as to what is right, and what is not.
In the end, all we have is what people think of us!
