lol, well some of the elements of the wheeler character I had because the character is roughly based off of some elements of me, hence the athlete part and other things mentioned...it's been (and probably will be for a long time (until I give up on it) a work in progress...

...and okay, I've horribly embarassed myself, I'll shut up now... OMG not at all! I am stunned, impressed, and eagerly awaiting the finished manuscript.

Personally I just like seeing wheelers as regular characters doing regular things, though that often means they don't have the lead role. One of my favorite wheeler portrayals was one of the woman friends in some Hugh Grant movie that was otherwise forgettable. She was just another regular character who happened to be in a chair. I did think it was a bit odd that her husband carried her up the stairs to bed, but I guess a lot of chicks like that sort of thing.
I also liked the wheeler guy in Aliens 4 and the one in the TV show Las Vegas (I think that was the Mitch guy that you devs swoon over).

Wasn't there a wheeler in Highlander?

I'm willing to forget all wheelers that have already been in other movies, including the reasonably sexy Mitch Longley in favor of brand new talent. Talk about fun on the casting couch!

you know, there WAS a movie kinda like that, in a way. i can't for the life of me remember the title, but it was a comedy starring chevy chase, i think it was about a haunted house and came out in the early '80s...anyway, there was a romance between two supporting characters; an a.b. woman and a w/c user guy, and it was treated totally matter-of-fact, nothing special; the woman was really happy w/the dude, but there was no 'inspiring' stuff. also in 'friday the 13th part 2' the wheeler/a.b. chick romance is treated as normal-except by jason...

Hey, I remember, as a kid, watching the TV show "Ironside". It was a great cop drama with the lead dude, Raymond Burr, as a detective. Also, in a chair from a gunshot.

I have so much useless trivia bouncing around in my head and I totally forgot about Ironside. I used to watch it as a kid. Now I'm going to go out and get the first two seasons on DVD. Thanks Tony, I needed the extra trivia...lol

I remember Ironside. Wow, that's a blast from the past. Remember that Police "bread truck" they modified for him? Hey... Why couldn't he drive himself or transfer into a car? And he had a small crew of people with him while on duty. What's up with that? LOL, lazy para!

hmmm... this thread has got my imagination going. i'll report back if i come up with anything worth sharing. i love both devogirl's and windrider's premises. i hope you both keep working on them. like phil mentioned... in my perfect movie my wheeler would not be sports-oriented. seems like almost every wheeler ever portrayed is involved in sports somehow. which is fine. but when it's not really what i'm into, it gets a bit tiring. i'd prefer the wheeler to be more of an artistic, witty, philosophical dude, myself. tony, you made me lmao with your wall-e post. i loved that movie but only now noticed any of his quad-like qualities. i will have to watch it again.

look at that big ol' invacare 'battleship' ironside has. the only episode i recall was one where a bad guy had captured him and was threatening to quad-ify him w/an iron bar to his neck....as for robots; yeah you never think of it, but r2d2 was basically a wheeler, wasn't he. and wall-e? if i made that movie, he'd have a .50 machine gun tucked away somewhere.

Dolly, you're the only chick that gets my humor!! lol The first time I saw Wall-E I thought he looked a lot like a quad. I'm convinced Wall-E gets more chicks than me and Triassic with pure power of CUTE!!
Ohhh man, the Ironside huge bread truck was great, and you're so right, he needed a fucking push EVERYWHERE. It was obviously before i got hurt, so the impression was everyone in a chair needed to be pushed constantly, but hey, Raymond Burr was still a badass.
