Just goes to show great minds think alike, Assie Was just thinking last night that a thread on food should be started on ya matey! Bananas, I've actually found another female who's not a huge fan of chocolate Except maybe for mint chocolate then that's a different story altogether! Here's another confession - I am foodie - I love talking about food, trying out recipes, and if there ever was a collection I will start...it'll have to be cookbooks. Indian, Chinese, Italian, Spanish, Thai, Argentinian, you name it ... have also been meaning to try out a Tibetan restaurant...will let you know how that goes. Oh and yeah...I'm always on a SEE-FOOD diet (I see food then I eat it!)

Count me in the "Men who love Chocolate Club". I've actually had Tibetan food before, not from a restaurant (I didn't even know there were 'Tibetan Restaurants'), but from exiled-Tibetan Monks in the employ of the Dalai Lama. Nothing like home cookin'!

Whenever i have been to the USA I have always found the chocolate not to be quite the same. Probably doesn't help that it is so hot out there when I go and it melts. Love Marks and Spencers dried stawberries covered in white chocolate and it is quite sickly sweet so you can't gobble down a packet so it lasts for ages. Also a favourite is cream brulee..... a taste bud delight.

I've tasted various American chocolates.. and I don't like them either, lol.. I think Norwegian chocolate is much better... Even M&Ms tastes better in Norway! I know that if there was no other types of chocolate than U.S. chocolate, then I would not like chocolate at all! There was actually a period of time here in Norway, where the nr 1 chocolate production company 'Freia' tried making their chocolates with an American recipe, and that was a huge disaster! The chocolate started tasting horrible and it was all over the news how their chocolates had been ruined, so they had to change them back or else people would stop eating it! *Mmm Norwegian Milk chocolate!*

i too have had monk-cooked tibetan food...at least their trademark dish called MoMo's; big, meat dumplings in a kind of rich, brothy soup, w/wide noodles-if i remembr correctly. it's good; not real spicy or exciting, but filling, satisfying 'country' food...like german cooking maybe?
euro choc. is WAY better than american, hands down. my fave is this thin, nutty bar of dark chocolate w/a light infusion of orange essence. mmmm. you don't need much of it, even, since it's very rich.

I've tried American chocolate & it tastes like its full of chemicals,nowhere near as good as Dutch or Swiss chocolate.70% is good if you dont want to get fat because its so bitter that you cant eat too much at one time & i love plain chocolate more than any other type.

Here's some American Chocolate for you. (Are we going to do recipes here?) This is called Chocolate Gravy... growing up we just referred to it as Chocolate. It's served over biscuits (the American kind) and good with bacon. (I know you're prolly all gagging now... but I swear it's good. ) Ingredients
* 1/2 cup butter * 4 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder * 1/4 cup all-purpose flour * 3/4 cup white sugar * 2 cups milk
Directions
1. Melt butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add cocoa and flour; stir until a thick paste is formed. Stir in sugar and milk. Cook, stirring constantly, until thick.Aaannddd... just in case An American Biscuit recipe (did I already post one of these here?) Baking Powder Biscuits (from a 1933 Recipe)
Ingredients:
2 cups sifted flour 2 tsp. baking powder 4 tablespoons butter or shortening 1/2 tsp. salt about 3/4 cup milk
Sift Flour once, measure, add baking powder and salt, and sift again. Cut in shortening or butter. (this is where I use my hands by rubbing the butter into the flour). Add milk gradually, stirring until soft dough is formed. Turn out on slightly floured board and lightly "knead" for 30 seconds, enough to shape. Roll 1/2 inch thick and cut with 2 inch floured biscuit cutter. Bake on ungreased sheet in a 400 degree oven for 12-15 minutes. Makes 12 biscuits. You can also make tiny tea biscuits that are only 1 1/2 inches wide with a small cutter or glass bottom. These are great served with tea, jam or honey. Makes 24. ... That lady also said... Whether you do this or another method, it's important not to overwork your biscuit dough. Mix until it's all moistened, and then GENTLY fold it over rather than kneading, then roll it out, or pat into shapes.
These are not my mom's recipes... and I don't cook so I'm not vouching for them... altho they were well reviewed.

Worst ever American 'chocolate' is anything made by Palmer's for Easter.... (hollow bunnies a specialty!) I call this 'wax chocolate' and loved it as a kid. Choco Bunny review here: candyaddict.com/blog/2009/04/08/candy-review-best-easter-bunnies-of-the-chocolate-persuasion/Best I have had recently is the Lindt 70% cacoa infused with chili pepper. This is a really nice combo (just a slight hint of heat).

Bananas, I hate almost ALL veggies, and really, the only fruit I'll eat is, you guessed it, BANANA. lol It's always been this way for me...I'll eat lil red potatoes n yellow rice, but I've never eaten a salad or most plants. One day there'll be a study that comes out saying veggies cause Cancer, and I'll look like the smartest guy in the world. ; )
Man, I had some chocolate Moose last night with a hint of Orange in it, topped off with whipped cream, and I'm here to tell you it rivals sex with Penelope Cruz. hehe Hoping Miss Cruz will prove me wrong one day!!

Nah, stick to the mousse, Tony; Penelope is overrated...now Salma is another story... ...anyway, yeah 'American Chocolate' sucks - the cheap Hershey's kind. I like dark chocolate as well, the 70% or more concentration...especially with mint.
