Hello, my name is Jianing. I am a 22 years old girl from China.
I always think I'm weird because I like people with disabilities. Today, I was online and I see this message board. It makes me feel good that there are people the same as me. There is a website in Chinese like this, but people just post photos of other people on it. I really don't like it. And most of the photos on the website are about disabled girls.
I want to make some friends here. Sorry for my bad English.

I'm glad you found us Jianing. The other message board you mentioned sounds like a typical male dev dominated message board with some inappropriate behavior going on there. You will find that this board is very different. It's really cool to have someone from China here!

Hi Dee Dee. Not a lot. I seldom see a man with crutches on the road. But man in wheelchairs, not a lot. I think disability is a big thing here in China. If a disabled person goes to university, he will then be on the news, because it happens rarely.

Hi Jianing, looking forward to hearing more from you. Your post re disability in China is very interesting. My boss is Chinese and a very driven person. His parents were very strick. Attitudes re disability in China would be very interesting to find out more about.

Jianing - I do speak Shanghainese at home...
Tabby - Strict Chinese parents seems like a stereotype but I wouldn't say it's always true. Contrary to popular belief, I personally don't think it is a genetic thing, it is a cultural thing. It all depends on how the parents have assimilated into Western culture and tradition.

It is quite interesting because I get the impression they are really strict and pushy with him but not so much his younger brother. This is something I have noticed with my family (me being the younger sibling that sneaked under the radar.) He is reluctant to have kids for fear that he would set too high an expectation and ruin their lives so I get the feeling he is pretty resentful. But having said that he hasn't done too badly for himself career wise.

A = average, B = bad, C = catastrophe, D = disowned and F = forever forgotten... Luckily I'm an only child, so I guess I must be spoiled...

Do you know how many people in China live with a spinal cord injury?

Welcome Jian. I love having people here from so many diverse cultures. Your English is wonderful!
Do you know how I know I am an American? Because I can't speak any other language other than American English!
I am so interested in everything you have to say and welcome to our board where you are not so alone or unusual.
