I was hoping to gauge some info from my disabled peers about how illicit drugs affect you. There was an old thread about 'views on drugs' but i was hoping for something more specific around physical sensations. The old thread was: paradevo.proboards.com/thread/2999/views-on-alcohol-drugs So, for e.g. when i smoke weed i get short of breath, BUT i don't spasm AT ALL for at least 8-12 hours. I remember i use to smoke a joint a few hours before i went on a date - the 'high' affect lasted only an hour or so but after that i was left spasm free for the whole night Other stuff reacts VERY differently with me than with AB ppl. Anyone care to share? Maybe if any ladies have dated a PWD and have some info? I know some ppl probably won't want to divulge stuff publicly, can i dare suggest pm'ing me? Just trying to benchmark my own experiences (+ i'm really curious:) ) To moderators: not sure if i'm breaking forum rules with this thread, if so I apologise in advance!

I'm dating a C-5/C-6 quad and here is what I noticed about his drug use. Marijuana only really has positive affects on him. He gets high a lot faster then I do, and his spams do disappear just like yours for at least a good 6-8 hours (sometimes more). Alcohol is a different story. He prefers to drink liquor because beer makes him have to cath twice as much and just takes the fun out of it. However if he drinks too much or just too fast, he'll get a horrible hangover the next day. I'm not just talking about a bad hangover either. His whole body hurts, he feels nauseous for hours, pounding headache, etc. He's done acid as well, and I haven't noticed any differences in that then an AB person with the high. But, his hands really tense up and contract so it's hard for him to do most things. He doesn't really mind that though, because that means his friends and I have to do everything for him! However, he said ecstasy isn't the same post-injury. It was just one really bad trip so he's vowed never to that again. I hope that gave you what you where looking for.

In my case, alcohol acts as a muscle relaxant, reducing spasms. Alcohol also has the capacity to reduce my fears and inhibitions so that I can even take a few steps out of the wheelchair without fear of falling.
Eight years ago (before I became bound to the wheelchair) at the wedding party of my older sister, I was able even to perform some dance steps.
If I ever get to upload the video, I'll share here with you all!

SMAer
I only drink alcohol, I can't do drugs for job reasons.
Booze has a very binary effect on me, either I'm drunk or I'm not. There isn't really a buzz feeling. When I am drunk how I handle it depends I think on how hydrated I am. Most drunk I've ever been was after a 12 hour car ride to NYC for a family thing. I had ONE beer and was completely hammered, I was doing zig zags on the sideways on the way back to the hotel. When I laid down the room was spinning.
One thing I've noticed is that I sober up extremely quickly and will get hangovers immediately.

Different kinds of alcohol have different sensations for me. Wine (particularly red) will give me a warm, toasty feeling up my back and relax my shoulders. Hard liquor seems to not hit me as much anymore, but if I have to much I will blackout quicker then ABs. As for marijuana, it seems to hit me harder than others, and depending on the strain my head might be on the moon, or I will have a weird conception of my spine and posture, and might get short of breathe unless I remind myself to breathe deep.

I only wish i read/asked earlier. About 2 months ago i tried one - i honestly thought i was going to DIE!!! I had the worst trip ever...and my body wouldn't stop spasming - 10 HOURS STRAIGHT!!!! I was wrecked for 2 days. Horrible horrible horrible...just like your b/f bakingbella i have vowed never to do that again! All ppl with SCI's, a word of caution: DO NOT try ecstasy!!!

Well I'm glad my answers would have been worth it! We are very drug-friendly people and like to try new things, so why not? He's interested in doing shrooms. Have you ever tried those post-injury?

My ex smoked so much he still got spasms when we was smoking but it was harder for him to transfer and stuff if he was REALLLY stoned (like after doing a dab) he was cool with acid, k and coke but NO Molly. That night turned for the worse. Hahahahahaa oh boy I LOVE this thread but I hope no one is judging. I love to get my rave on!

Alcohol was okay but it caused him "pissues" so yeah he'd just drink liquor and never get shit faced.

Alcohol gets me drunk like anyone else. I don't really notice any "getting drunk faster" or anything like that. Hangovers are also not really much more of an issue than with anyone else.
Weed has no notable 'positive' effects on my disability symptoms. I only rarely smoke it, though (once a year at most).
My friends keep asking me to join them on one of their Hardstyle outings, and to take some Extasy. But I'm not interested in that. Mostly because I think the music is Shit, though.
Another plan we have been making for a long time is to buy some shrooms and try those, I'd like to experience that at least once... If/when I do, I'll let you know how it went ^_^

Hardstyle is shittty but it is better in the UK then the US. You should check out some drum and bass or swing house! But from what I've read and witnessed I'd stay away from Molly.
