Wasn't there a Baroness from Transylvania back in the day that would murder beautiful young girls and bathe in their blood, and then ofc, there was good old Vlad the Impaler, right? lol Things might have tamed down a little now, or maybe not? lol

She didn't have any connection to Transylvania as far as I know. But you are right about Vlad Țepeș - he was born in Transylvania. However, he was the voivode of Wallachia - that's the area between the Southern Carpathians and the Danube. He did do some bloody things in his days, but I suspect it was the only way to keep the greedy snakes in check. Things have calmed down a little, yes, but when I see the corruption and decay within the political class nowadays, I can't help but think such a guy would be the only remedy. :-D Thank you, jrm!

Hi and welcome!!! I loooove Transylvania, been there at a friend's house, ate lots of sarmale, kurtos and that delicious aubergine spread (forgot the name), saw Sigisoara and went on the mountains OMG I f****ing love your country <3 (sorry I got a bit overexcited ) My friends from there actually hate vampire jokes, they had to listen to those jokes for too long and get really annoyed, it's good that you have a more moderate/tolerant policy

Zacuscă, right? Oh, and Sighișoara totally kicks ass, I never get tired of it. Btw, that's where Vlad Țepeș was born! I also used to be annoyed by vampire jokes and remarks coming from foreigners, but they don't bother me anymore. I know that there usually is no bad intention behind them, perhaps just a more or less successful attempt to find some common ground.

Pony, I don't know any wheelchair jokes. But I suspect it cannot be much different.

From what I've seen of it, Transylvania does seem a beautiful place. But I'm sorry to say that when I hear the word Transylvania my mind immediately goes to this Cluj-Napocian duo:
I'm so, so sorry.

How on earth did you find them? I tried for years to forget about this, and I had managed. Until now! Now I have a serious dilemma: what is worse, to get the traditional vampire/Dracula remarks or ring the Cheeky Girls bells?

Oh, and they were no. 2 in the Music Charts with the above song in the UK for a while back in 2002. They were very popular with pre-teen girls, which isn't the best thing considering their lyrics and style. I'd say the Cheeky Girls are worse that Vampires. Vampires can be traced back to a rich and interesting History. The Cheeky Girls cannot.

Unfortunately, the Romanian mainstream music broadcasted via the popular channels has the same shallow message, despite the shape that was polished and autotuned over the last 14 years. I stopped watching music channels a long while ago. To get rid of the terrible aftertaste: Very likely not everyone's cup of tea, but a real, valuable band, with authentic roots and a video with glimpses of Transylvania.
