I signed up for a disability dating site, Whispers4u.com. It's a pay site if you want to communicate with anyone. Of course, once I sign up and complete my profile, I get 5-7 "winks" and/or women wanting to meet me.
It's an obvious scam to get me to fork over $60, right?

I'm not sure it's worth that much when all is said and done. Heck, I'm not sure any dating site is. Count me out.

Yeah, it's a shame that some people appear to use internet dating as their only option. Sure, it's a good stepping stone and for people like me who, say about a year ago, had no self esteem or confidence to m'name, it's a good way to give yourself a boost by discovering good qualities about yourself that you are unaware existed. On the other hand, resorting to internet dating alone may severely limit one's options and makes us unaware of the bigger picture, so whilst I recommend using internet dating, never see it as the sole option. For the time it is my only option. If I could drive I'd be in Lexington every weekend at the bars and such, but until then the internet is all I have.

I was on there way back in 2007 and winked at a lot of guys. Back them women could message for free so if a guy winked back I'd message him my contact info. Maybe its not free for women anymore but if it is, why not wink back (if that's still free)?

Again, the idea that you have to pay for all these extras that should be free doesn't sit right with me. Subscriptions? Fine.
Membership fee? Again, no problem, profits need to be made.
But putting a price on communication and notifications?
No, to me that's wrong.
Still, grumpy Hopper could be on his own here.

I know a few years ago you could wink back on w4u free. Women could message guys and creatively invite them to other chat venues (yahoo, aim, etc.). It did change not long after I gave them up, so I don't think anything is free.

I, like @tc123, met my guy in the wild, at a party where we shared some mutual friends. I've never been big on any of the dating sites, I feel like it just attracts too many creepers. I have had some good times with people I've met on this site too, but sadly they didn't pan out. I'm a big believer in going out into the wild to find someone.

Also, personality-wise, it was obvious their best work was done in writing. Not live one-on-one conversations. This is me! lol

I guess that typing/text-to-speech is much easier due to the fact that you can take your time wheras with one-to-one there's more pressure.
Still, things improve with time. Experience is key.
