"Can't we get a love story where the guy's disability is not the antagonist?" Wow Clair - amazingly said!

BTW, this image is my favorite statement on the matter of assisted suicide:

I feel like I'm the only person on this site that had not heard about this book (and now movie) until like 3 weeks ago. I have now bought the book, and stopped reading this thread for fear of the ending being ruined. But I watched the trailer and I'm sooooo excited for it. And now I shall return to my reading

i joined here to see what the dev community thought about it after seeing the trailer... I think it kind of spoils itself... I also bought the book and plan to read it soon. I agree it has problems and i dislike the msgs it portrays i think in my brain i can seperate the social problems from the dev factor...

It looks good, but it would have been cool if they found an actual quad actor to play him.

So, kinda on topic. I have a coworker who asked me to go see this movie with her. She is not a dev. I accepted, but I know I'm going to have a hard time controlling my dev instincts/knowledge.

Everybody wants to kill themselves when they first find out they are paralyzed, it takes about a year for the shock to wear off. When I thought about being paralyzed before my injury, I had no idea if I could handle it or not and neither does anybody. There are so many variables in life that make it worth living and others that make you want to kill yourself. In Million Dollar Baby, they made an impulsive decision to kill her without even looking for a reason to live. There have been times in everybody's life that they felt hopeless and wanted to end it all, but nobody can predict the future and a happy life often follows these tragic situations. I don't know the particulars in different states and countries, but as far as I know, assisted suicide is only an option if there is a mortal diagnosis. Only when there is medically nothing that can be done to stop you from dying and everybody knows that it's going to get very painful and ugly is the legal option to end life ever available. Personally, I think I'd want to ride it out and experience everything that life has to offer.
