Welcome! I live in Oklahoma now, but I’m very familiar with the East Coast. I went to school in Pennsylvania, and my brother lives with his family in CT. Thanks for joining our community! Where in Pennsylvania did you go to school? My brother went to Penn state for a bit until he got homesick. I visited him once and thought College State was a beautiful place in the fall. I’ll refrain from putting the name in this searchable forum, but it’s a small liberal arts college less than an hour east of Penn State. I don’t mind giving of the name in a PM. I loved it there! Though it was a little gloomy in the winter.

I work in patient 3rd shift so I only get to meet patients while they are laying in bed so I really can't even tell if someone has the use of their legs or not but this guy couldn't use his arms at all so I could tell right away he had some sort of disability that effected the use of his limbs. As a quad, it’s obviously more noticeable to people in this situation that I’m disabled but people still miss it. I get asked to make a fist when having my blood drawn almost every time, even in my chair. I’m guessing it’s just a standard question? People usually get unnecessarily apologetic when I tell them I can’t. Thankfully it’s not that often because I’m not the biggest fan of needles. I do usually get a good laugh once they see my cripple card tattoo, though and that lightens the mood. Oh, welcome. Wait, you have a tattoo of your card???

Wait, you have a tattoo of your card??? Yup. I posted a picture a while back but it might be a casualty of the photobucket debacle. I’ll try to post one later.

Hi everyone! My name's Ingrid, I'm 32 and from Connecticut. Last week I finally thought about googling why I'm attracted to men in wheelchairs or who have lost their legs because for some reason I felt like I was strange or weird because of it. And I was please to find out that I'm not strange or weird but that there are other people out there who feel the same way. So now I don't feel so alone or different about it. You guys are actually the first people I've ever told! Anyways, I work in a hospital as a phlebotomist and am going to school to become an RN if I ever finish! Hopefully I'll get to know some of you and make some new friends Welcome from another East Coast hospital worker. I was a phlebotomist years ago, doing the early am blood draws, so I think I know what your job is like.

I have an off-topic question, would getting both of my elbow ditches tattooed be a massive hindrance for people that are trying to get my blood sample? Since I moved to Scotland I had problems even without tattoos, I got stabbed five times once with no results, haha. How do you normally drawn blood from heavily tattooed people? Not there yet, but curious.

Greetings from NW Ct! Stay warm! Honestly, don't let having your blood drawn stop you from doing something you want. Finding a vein has nothing to do with sight, so adding color to the skin shouldn't make a difference. Any good phlebotomist would be able to find a vein just as easily as before.
