hey all. i dont have anywhere else to really talk about this, so im hoping its ok to share here.
about 2 weeks ago i started to lose feeling in my fingers, and by the end of that week I was in hospital getting an MRI on my spine. Some backstory - got a very bad whiplash injury about 7 years ago. its now 2 weeks to the day when i started losing the feeling, and my hands all pretty much useless. Typing this is a frustrating time consuming effort.
My hands are the worst. they are about 90% numb. I cant hold things or pick up things properly anymore. like i said above, typing is very difficult. and they feel so heavy. my fingers feel like they are curling in.
i have a band of tight sensation around my chest.
my legs and feet are numb - they feel fuzzy (if that makes sense).
Last MRI didnt show anything, i have a full brain and spinal MRI on Monday coming. Could be viral, could be some sort of nurological disease or it could be a drug reaction. But i have no idea.
i'm into my second week off work and im going insane. From not knowing whats going on and boredom.
im really scared.
anyway, just needed to get this off my chest. Thanks for reading.

If you can keep your head when all others are losing there’s.....
I was gonna say in 1994 I got tinnitus and had MRI which showed I had syrinx, but your MRI might of shown it. I’m c4/5 and numb from the shoulders down I still get pins and needles that are like millions of needles underneath my skin…
Try to get as much physio as you can in your hands, my fingers are curled up, get some splints they help,
Good luck to you
Pete

Sending big hugs QK.
Your symptoms sound very like mine some years ago when I was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré Syndrome which is a neurological condition. Did the symptoms start in fingers and toes and work up the limbs? Might be worth asking them to consider that as a possibility.
Lots of love, R.

That sounds quite scary . Can't say I can relate to this awkward numbness, but I think fear is a pretty universal concept. So I'm sure everybody here can sympathise at least to a certain degree. If you've got nobody to vent to then feel free to pm me :/

Lots of love, R. i've been tested for that. isnt it. that was what i thought i had, doc was quick to point out it was not the case. thanks all for your support. i have another brain/spinal scan on monday. i hope it shows something... i would type a lot more, but i unfortunately cant.

Sorry you feel so shitty. You mentioned it might be viral. I assume they have run blood tests before sending you to all of these scans? Blood tests would probably rule out any infectious causes of your issues, one would think. Hope you figure out what's causing your symptoms!

So it looks like it could be an Autoimmune Disease called Pernicious Anemia. My body is not absorbing b12, so I’m not creating any new red blood cells. Treatment plan is 2 injections of b12 a week for next 6 weeks, then 1 a week, then hopefully down to 1 a month. But forever. Not so bad. I’ll take it.

Crap. I’m very glad you’re okay
