(anyone speak portuguese?) I understand it, but I don't think there's anything really worth translating. It's part of a newscast and they're mainly talking about a study the did in Portugal about about the problems disabled people face daily, in which this guy apparently participated. I talks about how the main problems are architectonic barriers and public transportation, and he gives some examples and also talks a bit about having to find a way to get through those things. At the end they talk about how he recently started skiing and he says how much he loves it. I agree, they should have filmed him skiing ;D

Oh....WOW!!!!!! Iz, that was an amazing vid. I was utterly fascinated.
I'll admit that for me, there was not a whole lot of dev factor except for the shots where he was in his chair. That forced me to analyze why exactly that was, and I think that the complete absence of any legs at all removed the dev factor. I enjoy stumps, I enjoy deformed limbs, I enjoy atrophied limbs. But with him there was nothing at all, so dev-wise my reaction was neutral. However, just as a human being with a deep interest in disability I found him very interesting.
I think if I had been lucky enough to come across him and he snapped MY picture looking at him, he would have seen someone looking back at him with utter fascination and a smile.

thanks for the synopsis, enid. hi iz, cool link. the dev factor only kicked in for me during that brief moment of him with his wheelchair, but i can see how the skateboard would be much more practical! what a cool, cute guy and i like the concept of his photography theme.

That's interesting Dolly, you and me both...why did it take the wheelchair for the devness to kick it? What's with the chair?

He had a great face... beyond that kind of freaked me out. I am not an amputee dev. I'd have no problem dating a single amputee but it doesn't have a dev factor for me. Missing more than one limb freaks me out a bit. Go figure.

That's interesting though because it gives you a bit of a "taste" of what it's like to be "normal".

You said that "missing more than one limb freaks you out." I was thinking that this feeling of being freaked out by a double amputee is the same kind of feeling that the unenlightened among the non-devs feel when seeing anyone of any disability. So you might be feeling what some other people feel when they see your average para. Note this was not a judgment on you. I'm freaked out by stuff too (I saw a lady today who had a horrible facial disfigurement and that freaked me out a bit), and even the legless guy in the video said "If I saw a legless man on the street, I'd stare!"

Ahhhh, thanks Claire, now I understand - I just can't imagine being freaked out by either a para or a quad. Well, that's the whole point of the thing isn't it?

I can't imagine NOT finding a para or a quad sexy.
I mean, I've seen paras and quads who didn't do much for me, but in general, I just can't imagine not finding that attractive.
