I've been away for a while but I always drop by to see how my site is doing.
Interestingly, when I google Paradevo, I see comments from people (devs and wheelers) who love the site with a thousand thank you's. That makes me feel good. But then there are comments from wheelers who think the whole thing is sick sick sick.
For those of you more active in the devotee community, can you tell me how this site is viewed by everyone else? Is it still sort of hidden? Is it hated? Loved? Is it generally accepted? Have I managed to foster any understanding or enlightenment?
Thanks in advance for your input.

Well, I'm kinda scared to be the 2nd, or 3rd, person to post...lol...but I think it's a cool little place!! I've definitely learned some things, enjoying some threads, met some interesting people and laughed, so if I'm a drunk Paula Abdul, and PD is a contestant on American Idol, I'm giving a thumbs up.

I'm not sure I can say that I'm "active" in the devotee community in general, but I do have several contacts with devs who are not a part of this particular community (straight men). Many of them say that they read, or have read, or occasionally lurk here at PD, and wish that they had a place like this where they could discuss things intelligently among themselves, or simply lament that they're not welcome here.

I'm with Claire...I wouldn't say that I was active in the Dev community, but it's still a part of me and I'm exploring all the aspects of it. I would still love a relationship with a wheeler, and I admit (after a few drinks with friends tonight) I sort of "came out". The girls were really supportive and have told me that as long as the guy treats me right and respects me, they don't care if he has a disability or not. They weren't surprised, they were more intrigued than anything else. And that's why they're my friends!

I confess -- I didn't pick up on the 'para' aspect of this at first. I finally got it. This place rocks.
We be rock'n the house, up in here.

1st, I just got home from playing a private party with my guitarist. In the beginning I felt weird, you know, having to be lifted up stairs while peeps blankly look on, and I can't help move PA gear, but we played fantastic, forcing peeps to see me in a completely different light. It's my way of 'conquering' the world!! Wish I had a Dev with me.
2nd, I'm impressed with Claire's revelation, and the acceptance by her friends. That's another form of 'conquering' the world. More power to ya, Lassi. ; )
3rd, this is the ONLY place I can share these victories!! ParaDevo means that to me!

Lee- good to hear from you. I want to chime in even though I am not sure I can answer the specific questions you ask. I am not active in any other devotee community- I have never went looking for anything else once I found this place... honestly, when you find the best why go elsewhere? I will give you a perspective from my little corner of the world.... *This site has allowed me to put a name to a part of me that has always existed. That was huge for me. *It has opened my eyes that I am not alone in my feelings and that connection to others has been really important. *It has given me courage to actually step out and be more forward with wheelers which I would have never done before. *It has, and still is, helping me be more authentic. This is who I am. PD has allowed me to embrace it. So, Lee, thanks. Thanks for this forum. Thanks for checking in. Thanks for your insight. And Claire... maybe someday I will have the boldness to share with my friends. How many drinks did you say you had? JK... And Tony.... I would have loved to accompany you to that event. I am sure it was great.

Hiya Lee! Good to hear from you! I haven't been on any other devotee sites for a long time now, because this one seems to be the most active and interesting. Part of it is that the message board format just seems to work better than the Yahoo groups format for encouraging participation. There are a lot of devo Yahoo groups out there, but most seem to slow down pretty quick. Claire's comments, it's nice to hear we have a good rep among some of the guy devos too. It's too bad they don't feel like they have a comparable site, but if they want one, they should form one. That's what we did. Finally Lee, you should feel great at what a difference this site has made--just focus on the hundreds of positive comments. You can't please everyone all the time. There will always be haters, and most of them are just ignorant, or got burned once by a devo. I'm willing to bet that most of the negative comments (like the ones we encountered on apparalyzed) are from people who have not actually visited this site, but just hate all devos. Don't waste your time on them. Why torture yourself? You should feel good about this site.

I don't know if this is the right spot to post this but I'm mostly intrigued and surprise to found a guy in here who's an active member of a disabled website (beautiablity.com) were they pretty much HATE Dev's, specially the moderator is a fierce Dev Hater(apparently she had some really bad experiences with Devs)... So, I would ask him (if he wants to share of course, i wont say who's him to protect hes privacy) if he defend Dev's in that website and whats hes posture......(i haven't been in that place in a loonggg time so I dont know what hes saying in there)
