I will concede that in the current economic situation, many businesses are axing their sales staff, or other staff that interface with the public, therefore the higher-ups often take interfacing with the public as a part of their duties, which could obviously be difficult if you can't get out to the public. In a well-structured organization, though, there are personnel to deal with interfacing face to face with customers, etc., so that shouldn't be a problem, and meetings can once again be conducted remotely (and often actually are these days, because a webcast is so much cheaper than having actual physical space to conduct it in, and allow for more dynamic use of meeting resources).

Random Alert... Tangent Ahead... Mc's story reminds me a lot of another place where I hang out on the web, where those sorts of connections get discussed a lot. ( Ad nauseum, actually , did I spell it right windy?) Nauseum? Must be a nautical museum?

yeah E, but you're in a situation similar to mine, our problems tend to be mechanical, not physiological. My brother is a higher level exec, and he does a fair bit of work from home, but he also does a sh*tload of travel and meetings. Just doesn't seem compatible with sudden or extended hospital stays. I think only incompletes are somewhat shielded from the dreaded pressure sore. Yet to really have a pressure sore, praise Jehovah. Honestly, though, my travel is limited. I go speak at a few conferences a few times a year -- nothing major. I bring a companion (again, something my company would probably not pay for if I was working for someone) who helps me with things. I also pay one of my employees an extra 5 hours a week to pick me up each morning for work and drive me home. Again, were I not in charge, there would be no way I could get that to happen.
