Matisse, do you mean bad experiences that dis. women have had with MALE devotees or bad experience that dis. men have had with FEMALE devotees (or both) I personally know a few women who have had bad experiences with male devotees. Then again, I know quite a few women who have had bad experiences with males. I am sorry for their rotten luck. I have had generally great experiences with men. Interestingly, I find that alot of women don't heed their own intuition when it comes to relationships. If I sense alot of "red flags" going up when I am getting to know someone, I usually don't stick around to see if the flags go away. I think some women (and men) hang around long after they should have been gone and then say they had a "horrible" experience.

As an old hand from way back when NM was a vibrant community, i can report of a few experiences which soured the well. A few women had some very distasteful experiences with the male of the species in this regard. It was a small handful really. Yet, those few women were very articulate, and were able to galvanize the community on this issue. It lead to something like a witch hunt. I did not buy it. It only served to pique my interests. I know for a fact that a few of the most popular, most caring, articulate women posting there would have been better served by this venue. This place did not exist then. They have since gone on to leave their spouses and relocate into a wheelchair accessible domicile.

Carp, do you suppose that this venue is different because it is female oriented? I really do. Some of the male devo sites are just really "fetish porn". If you just plugged in a different fetish (ie. women with shoes, " " handbags, " " cucumbers), it seems like you'd get essentially the same stuff. I think if some of these devo guys could get a one-legged blow up doll, they'd be quite content. I am not sure that there is all that much regard for the person as a person on some of those sites. It's just a get yer rocks off kinda thing.
Since the advent of the internet and high speed connection, I have learned more about the "fetish" world than I'd ever even contemplated. Not that there is anything inherently wrong with fetishes. I think it's more a matter of how you express yourself.

do you suppose that this venue is different because it is female oriented? Absolutely. Women's version of Playboy is a romance novel.

Matisse, is a romance novel a bad thing? It generally ends with the hero banging the woman in ripe, glorious rapture. The romance novel is the build up to the final climax. The great thing about being with a devo female is that you will probably make her want to read the final chapter first!

Matisse, is a romance novel a bad thing? Yes. The romance novel is the build up to the final climax. Yeah, like a whole book's worth of foreplay. My wife tells me that in many of them, they bang.......ONCE!!!!! Sheeesh. The great thing about being with a devo female is that you will probably make her want to read the final chapter first! NOW you're talking!!!

Hey now, not all of us go for that romance crap. Personally I'd rather see more XXX content on this site, but I seem to be in the minority. Anyway, about my previous point, I know there are some devotees (mainly guys but some women too) who are offensive, and I'm not going to apologize for those assholes. There is no excuse for their abusive, stalker behavior. I'm not going to try to change the minds of disabled people who have been burned. But if even a few disabled people who have never met a devotee before see this site and think, "hey, they're not so bad!" then that is fine by me.

I was zooming along as usual, she caught up to me and pretty much just sat on my lap. I guess I was amused, I rode her around for a bit before heading on my way. She told me that she had a prior boyfriend who was a quad. I didn't find out until much later about devotees (male ones) and make the connection back and wonder whether she was one. If I had known, perhaps I would have let her see me transfer!! Hehe.

Well Matisse, hindsight is 20/20. You'll have a different perspective now regarding your next "lap sitter".
I often wonder if being on a board like this an becoming aware of the female devo phenomenon makes you now think that any woman who flirts or pays attention is a devo. Hmmm. I guess you have to develop "devo-dar", kind of like "gay-dar".

It's just hard to tell if some girl looking at you is a dev, is just being generically friendly, is a med student diagnosing you in her mind, is shocked by your disability, etc...The eyes can tell tho; there's a certain look in a devo's eyes; kind of a combination of interest, curiousity, furtiveness and attraction. It's actually quite distinct if you get a good blast of it. But you do have to be perceptive. And you can be wrong too. I got that look the other week from a girl in front of a local restaurant with her family. Just a couple of glances, our eyes meeting, but I'd bet she was in The Club.

Jason raises a point I've been wondering about myself. Aside from the sexual stuff, aren't we wheelers kind of...well, boring? I mean in the sense of doing fun stuff. Before you guys come down on me like a ton of Quickies, I know, I know, we can ski, sail, cycle, hike, blah blah, anything the a.b. can do, yatayata...but lets face it; most of the time it amounts to sitting. Roll someplace and sit there, roll someplace else and sit THERE. Isnt a girl going to get a little stifled after awhile? As for myself, I'd encourage any girlfriend to go off and do all that guilt-free without me.

It's actually quite distinct if you get a good blast of it. In hindsight, this was definitely it for Ms. Lap Ride. I didn't notice these things specifically, but it just came across as a certain enthusiasm and assertiveness that was distinctly different from the usual "can I get a ride" (if I had a nickel for every one of those...). And then the reference to a prior quad boyfriend seals the deal. I came away thinking there was just something different about the interaction.
