Chan, I don't recall seeing your Earl in the movie...
Incidentally, the director commentary on the dVD notes that Jess, Zupan's fiiine girlfriend was dating a quad before meeting Mark. One quad, could be a fluke; Two-she's gotta be a devo.

I've always had a crush on Sam Gloor (the guy in the movie everyone else made fun of 'cause he didn't "like big tits"). -E- was actually supposed to hook something up between me and Sam a while back. However, the more I got to know -E-, the less I wanted to talk to Sammy. Every time you say -E-, I think for a split second that you're talking about me. ... and my heart flutters.

" Jess, Zupan's fine girlfriend, was dating a quad before meeting Mark."
I loved the details that she had been working in a morgue, and that she and Zupan met at a funeral. Remember Harald and Maude?
I'm modifying this post to add that I think this supports my little thesis that disability places one in a broad counterculture, already inhabited by diverse people--such as devos--who are there for their own reasons.

that's too funny, chan. i often wonder if some of the people in my life might be "on to me" and my dev ways as well. i almost think "how can they not know", but i haven't had any outright comments like that...yet.

Oh Andy Cohn, I dream of yooooooou ;D Those guys talk about picking up women in bars, what I want to know is, where are the hot rollerboys when I go out??
Anyway, back to the original topic of this thread, I just watched Rory O'Shea, and I know Lee thinks it's boring, but I loved it. It has a very understated tone, but I thought it was really good, better even than Freak City, on a similar topic. Although Freak City wins in terms of hotness, because of that kiss with Peter Sarsgaard. But anyway Rory O'Shea was played by James MacAvoy, who was also Mr. Tumnus in Narnia, another excellent role, IMHO, I think he's a great actor, and SO cute.

Cohn is distinctive looking; a true pretty boy. Presumably he's Jewish, but he sure doesn't look it.

Anyone ever seen a TV Series in early 90's called "Press Gang*? It's still available in UK, not sure in other countries. There was a Quadriplegic character called Billy Homer, he was played by a quad actor I believe. The "Mystery Writer" if my memory serves me well!

Devogirl, I saw Rory O Shea too, and loved it also. In fact, I liked it so much, that I watched twice back to back.

Yeay, Lee is over-ruled! ;D I really liked how understated and subtle the film is--so different from Hollywood. I think it's one of the few disability-themed films I might appreciate even if I weren't a devo. But I admit it's hard to imagine a non-devo mindset.

I didn't say I didn't like Rory O'Shea, just that it was little slow. I even gave it a good review on the website.
I just have a very short attention span, thanks to things like video games and mtv. If something doesn't blow up every 20 minutes (or get blown), I start to get bored.

Just teasing ya, Lee! But I agree, that would have made the movie a lot more fun!

One that I love is "The Men" with Marlon Brando. It is a very old movie, but really good. They even show his leg spasming, which I haven't seen in other movies. I had good memories of The Men, so I recently bought it from Amazon and just watched it with my husband and 11-year-old daughter. They seemed to like it as much as I did--we all especially liked the scene of social torture when Brando is first brought from a private room into the ward and makes the mistake of pissing off the other guys with his hostile attitude. Jack Webb in his role as Norm is still my favorite.

Agreed... The Men is one of my favorites. I can't believe how great Jack Webb is in that role.

I've now seen Murderball, too - great movie! But how is it possible that Scott Hogsett is completely independent? He says so in the Larry King Interview... he's a C5 quad, isn't he? Didn't think that this was possible! On another note, there's a film called "G:M T - Greenwich Mean Time" which is not listed in the music section and (as far as I know) hasn't been discussed here yet. It's a British movie about the life a group of youths who form a band called Greenwich Mean Time. On of the characters is injured in a motorcycle accident and left paralyzed. Although this is only a minor part of the plot, there are still some really good scenes in it.

By the way, Andy posted a link to his website in the guestbook, but in case you missed it here it is: www.andycrowe.co.uk/Lots of cool pics and info, check it out! So you just "believe" ;D ;D ;D
