So, yeah. I may be a squirelly, secretive dev who has lurked here for aaaaages, and decided to stop being such an internet leech! Seriously, though, I think the whole concept of the board, and all of the excellent people who contribute to it is amazing, and I felt like the time had come to be a grown up about it all, and start contributing a little. Aside from the obvious predilection , some of the other things I love are: gardening, cooking, spending time with my hound, photography, swimming, hiking and my extremely lovely (and AB) boyfriend. You're welcome. May I ask what inspired you to give up your secretive ways? You don't have to give up squirrely, btw. lol

Yeah, I love squirrels. I'm fairly sure it's mutual : )
It was kind of a mix of way too many over-analysed reasons! I started to feel weird about reading and thinking about how people felt/thought about stuff, but not really contributing. I'm also going to be 30 at the end of the year, and I dunno, I think part of being an adult is taking responsibility for your own drives (whatever they may be!), as well as being open with yourself...I genuinely think that paradevo has already helped a lot with that : )
I was also worried it would be disloyal to my partner as well, but I think I've reconciled that with myself (he doesn't know). Plus there seems to be a huge amount of hilarity, but also a lot of deep, articulate thoughts here-a happy combination!
I also take a long time to make decisions!

It's great to have someone else here who has an AB partner. I look forward to hearing more about what that's like. I know there are a few people here in that situation and it's fascinating to me because I've never had much luck in AB relationships. Would you feel okay telling us more about that? Like how long you've been together and what made you choose him?

Geeze, GONNA be 30. Honey, your testicles have barely descended. I'm nearly 10 years older than you and I'm barely an adult. I vote we skip it and move straight into that second childhood thing. ;D

It's so interesting to me that there seems to be a real scale of 'devness'. Totally understandable though, given the hugely complex creatures we all are!
I'd always had pretty lusty and short lived relations with guys (which I attribute to hedonism and hefty 'daddy issues')...enjoyable at the time, but often self-destructive and horrible for the soul! We've been together for about 4 years, and I dunno...for me I feel like loving someone, in a holistic sense, is more about who they are, as opposed to 'how' they are, I guess. (I'm also not convinced that any one person has all the traits that I'd like...then again, most disabilities are more than a 'trait'. I digress.)
I do, however, completely acknowledge that being attracted to any particular disability (and probably all of the other preferences too) is a really visceral and potent thing, and probably doesn't really ever completely subside. And that there may not be a whole lot of choice in how important it is for any one person in their relationships. I sometimes also feel quite guilty sometimes for not telling him...but it doesn't hinder anything for me about I feel about him, and it's not exactly something you can take back.
He is an incredibly good, respectful, person (which trumps any other attractive trait, for me) is built like a lumberjack, and has a cracked sense of humour. How could I not choose him?! ;D

People who behave like grown ups all the time are squares ;D

Welcome Peony! I'm so glad you decided to jump in and start posting after reading for so long. I also find it very interesting to hear about your AB guy. I dated several AB guys over the years so know what its like to keep the dev secret.

Hey there Peony! So cool that you decided to come out of lurk mode. Also glad to see another fellow dev in a happy AB relationship. I think you're totally spot on when you say that there is some sort of scale when it comes to devness. I'm gonna open up a new thread about the topic over in Devs Only, so we don't hijack your welcome thread
