Hello people!
I'm a chair-bound sufferer of Muscular Dystrophy in his mid-30s from (sometimes) sunny Sydney, Australia.
I'm currently doing my PhD in computer science (which is quite full-on, as you can imagine), so in my down time I thought I'd check out this website--I'm a curious type.
Anyway, just checking in to say hi.

Thanks for the welcome to both of you! (I especially appreciate a good Douglas Adams quote )

Welcome, entropy! I've been doing a lot of research lately on the different types of MD. Can I ask which type you have, if you don't mind?

Welcome, entropy! I've been doing a lot of research lately on the different types of MD. Can I ask which type you have, if you don't mind? Sure. Unfortunately, I can't give you a solid answer (because I don't know), except to say "congenital". That's kind of an answer, but not as specific as (say) "Duchenne" (which I don't have).

OK, understandable. Thanks, entropy. Hope you enjoy yourself here. !

I should probably talk a bit more about myself, because I haven't really said much at all.
So...
Besides computer science, I'm a bit of a film and music buff--played piano as a kid and did some film studies units at university. I've also studied philosophy and read quite a few of the works of Carl Jung and Joseph Campbell.
My sense of humour is... twisted. Life is a funny game full of absurdity, and if I had more time, I'd be writing short stories about how bizarre the world really is.
Ask me any questions and I'll happily go into more detail.

Cool, entropy ! Any particular films or directors you're a fan of? I was a film studies minor in college (university).

I love Terry Gilliam's films, especially "Brazil", which is not only brilliant and insane in almost every aspect but also quite accurate in its depictions of bureaucracy gone mad. "The Big Lebowski" is another favourite--not only is it hilarious, but the mix of stoner comedy and hard-boiled mystery (with Busby Berkeley influences thrown in for good measure) make it quite interesting, stylistically.
Of course, there's also the classics: "Metropolis", "Psycho", etc.
In general, I'm a fan of Gilliam, the Coen Brothers, Sam Raimi, early Ridley Scott, Joe Dante and a few others. I was a fan of David Lynch, but Inland Empire really left a bad taste in my mouth.
(I must also confess that I think Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, Tron, The Dark Crystal and Superman: The Movie are all excellent films and personal favourites.)

Cool. I think the Coen Brothers are one of the few great directors of the modern era. Big Lebowski isn't my favorite movie, but I do really enjoy the bowling drug scene.
I think Fargo is fantastic, and would definitely be taught in any film class that I taught. I also really appreciate Barton Fink even if it isn't the most entertaining film; and of course, No Country for Old Men... love the scene with the "lucky quarter."

What did you think of "The Man Who Wasn't There"?
